Bunkis went on a rant on the Leafs organization and 3 amigos yesterday. Surely pissed off all 3. Need to see them play pissed off more often.

agreed with them playing pissed off, but they DGAF about JD Bunkis, I'll tell you that for free. Bunkis had nothing to do with last nights win.

I'm just wondering how many will be changing their tune after bitching so much in the game thread.
The problem is the comments after a game .
Willy its only a 3 game losing streak .
For 10 games they haven't played well for a period and a half just last night.
The 3rd they went into overdrive and this is what we know they can do .
The core takes things so non chalant after 7 yrs of playoff failures
.
You can't blame people for being concerned.

Iam glad they finally showed up.

I'll give you Willie. Not so sure about 16 and 34.

You posted that Mitch may want to dip. What could make him want to leave the team he says he wants to play for if not for the heat he gets from the media?

We can't call out mediocre efforts?

I don't think anyone was wrong for calling out that trash play.

At the same time we can mostly all agree that 3rd period was excellent other than the PK. Props to them for actually putting some intensity into their game. It's been missing for a long time. Prob since the Boston game.
These guys are making $35+m and should be playing like this almost every night like McDavid, Drai, Kutch and MacKinnon. Problem is they barely turn it up in the playoffs and hence the 1 and 8 record in almost a decade.

Man - I have many, many bones to pick with Rielly. His defending and his O zone play can drive me crazy. He's overpaid. He has more often than not one of our best players in the playoffs due to his ability to lug the puck.

Maybe that will decline this year too but he's not going to be a healthy scratch and he's most certainly not playing up front.

The 1st goal he put the puck into an area the Leafs wanted it.. to try and get a bypass from the winger and pre activated the weak D (Tanev).. Lorentz didn't get it done. Rielly should be more ready for a turnover but many teams coach their last player out of the zone to linger around the net. That goal is not all Rielly.
Have you ever played a hockey game? There is NOT 1 single coach in G and/or O and/or A and/or N at da competitive level who tells his last D man to start skating up da ice after a pass to a winger assuming they will clear da zone .. you ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS protect your net when you are last man back .. you NEVER NEER NEVER let da other teams BEST player get a breakaway 1 on 1 with your tender .. sorry this post really made me LOL .. sorry to embarrass you but your 3rd point shows you never played da game

I am not interested in telling you the level I both coached and played at... I think you can look at my posts and figure that out.

Tanev was activated early, Rielly passed it where he was supposed to, he should have recovered to mid ice. Lorentz job is to get the bypass. So the fault is shared.

This game proved once again that this team will only go as far as the big boys take us. We can't count on any goals from the bottom six.

What a difference McCabe makes on that defence. He and Tanev are elite together. However, OEL needs a rest and Timmins needs to be #8 on the depth chart.

I can't wait for Stolarz to return, Woll continues to lose track of the puck at points in the game, hasn't looked confident. That second goal was very weak.

All said, if they play with the intensity of the 3rd period, and the defensive diligence of the second, and eliminate some of the brain dead mistakes, we'll be fine.

It was actually Myers would blew the zone on that one. He should have stayed back in front of the net with Hughes instead of trying to join a rush that never started to materialize

You may be right that it is Myers.. I thought I saw 8 on the replay.

I feel the D were asked to get up ice more, the early plan was to pass up to the high walled winger and a touch on for the center, wide winger and off d to jump into. We had several failed bypasses in the first so there may have been an adjustment, d men to hold an extra second before jumping in.

There is a reason the 4th line got 5 minutes and that early goal on the Lorentz error was a large factor.

Good bounce back W, liked the way they battled back every time NJD got the lead. Thought Joe Woll played well, maybe you'd like to see a save on the 2nd goal, but not faulting him, was screened in front and looked like he saw it late, and by that time it's too late.

Our center depth seriously needs to be upgraded ASAP.

The majority of which were taking wrist shots pinching to the circles. He could have 0 goals on the year as long as he’s generating rebounds and forcing defenders to acknowledge that he exists instead of collapsing to the slot knowing there’s nothing him or Marner can do about it.
slapper

Looked ok here. Its the second video on a quick search. The first was him going after Greg.

He's been bad this year. An explanation is that he had a kid 2 months before the season and came into the season out of shape and out of practice.

An alternative explanation is that he is just washed up at the age of 30. To me, this one is less likely.
A third explanation is he has 8 year contract with a full NMC, a beautiful wife and baby, and hockey isn’t that important to him anymore. He’s taken his lackadaisical approach and lack of urgency on the ice to a whole new level. And in his case, there’s a trend of downward performance for several years now. His 20 goal season was 6 years ago and his defensive game which was never very good has taken a nose dive. He doesn’t create much offensively anymore. He’s not in their top six for me right now.

Well, they are nothing if not entertaining.

Good to see both AM and Willie step up, and I do think the return of McCabe played a factor. He's really a key guy on the blueline for this team.

On the downside, they must lead the league in "goals given up within ~2 minutes of scoring to tie or take a lead". Last night they added 2 more to that list (oddly, both NJ responses came almost exactly 2 minutes after the Leafs scored).

I know I'm beating a dead horse on their lack of depth scoring but in their last 6 games the only two forwards to score outside the Big 4 are Knies (4) & Robertson (1).

Both times on OEL penalties.

A typical Sheldon Keefe chokejob of a game...oh wait, he's coaching the other team.

I thought Auston specifically shined and was brilliant. Great to see.

Since his return:

GP: 7
G: 6
A: 5
PTS: 11

Welcome back Captain!
