Sends a good message to Johnsson, show some jam and you'll move up. There's a job on Kadri's line just waiting for him, but he has to earn it.

If Kadri can't get things going and Kapanen continues to get a chance/ look good with Matthews 5 on 5, how about these lines when Nylander signs?

Marleau-Matthews-Kapanen
Hyman-Tavares-Marner
Leivo-Kadri-Nylander
Johnsson-Lindholm-Brown

-Nylander has shown to produce almost as well 5 on 5 with Kadri as Matthews, and would give us 3 deadly lines.

I really like this setup. 50+ minutes a game you'd be giving the opposing D a workout.

Kapanen did well on Matthews R/W but he also did an amazing job on the fourth line, when the hawks had the 4 minute penalty , he kept on stripping the puck from their players and was the only one with a shot on goal.

This team needs defense as well as offense and we have plenty of offense on the Matthews and Tavares lines, what we need is defensive players to help out the defesemen, why do we need Kadri's line to be a scoring line, we need His line and Lindholm's to assist the defensemen and also to pot the odd goal but their main jobs should be deffense.

Looking forward to when Nylander comes back and they have 3 players who can pick apart a goaltender with their shot alone. The Hat-trick snipe by Tavares added to Matthews' and Nylander's shot.

Just need a playmaker for the 2nd. PP unit.

I usually agree with most of your posts, but I think you are off on the first paragraph. And I found it redundant when you started with "The NHL is not the AHL. It was redundant because i said it....in the same paragraph you were relying to.

But I agree with the last paragraph.
My first paragraph is his biggest issue. His save selection is horrible and unless his as athletic as Hasek was he will always struggle.

The fact that I said that the NHL was not the AHL was not at all redundant as you said he won that AHL goalie of the year means squat. He played goalie for the best team in the AHL behind the best defence in the League. That league is vastly inferior to the NHL in speed of the game and more importantly shooters skill set. It needs to be dismissed that he truly was playing on a great team in a inferior league so that you and others can grasp that it has no bearing on his ability to be an NHL goalie.

Oh that's right, thanks. LOL. Posting after many whisky shots is my excuse.

So much for my memory - who did it with MTL?

Anyhow, it's super rare. If it happens it happens but no team is worried about their backup going into the playoffs.

Roy and Dryden were backups until real late in the season.

Johnsson, Leivo and Hainsey have looked bad this season so far.

Where is this Nylander guy, we could use him right about now.

Nice to see he's still doing decent, I just don't like his line as a whole imo. Although if that expected goals for means anything, they'll get their fair share soon enough.

Have you been keeping track of the quality of competition that Kadri faces so far? I'd be interested in our lines matchups.

their quality of competition grade is in brackets....and here I mushed together p60 and p160 into 1 p60 stat, I mushed cf% and xgf% into one possession stat, and mushed together the two relative stats as well:

Even Strength

Tavares: 15:24 (A+), 3.88p60, 55.5pos%, +2.8rel
Marner: 14:54 (A+), 2.68p60, 56.2pos%, +3.7rel
Hyman: 14:19 (A+), 2.10p60, 54.8pos%, +1.7rel

Matthews: 15:07 (B+), 7.28p60, 47.7pos%, -9.9rel
Marleau: 15:19 (A+), 5.21p60, 48.6pos%, -8.4rel
Ennis: 12:01 (B), 0.84p60, 44.1pos%, -12.9rel

Kadri: 12:35 (C+), 0.00p60, 61.9pos%, +10.5rel
Brown: 12:04 (C+), 0.00p60, 54.4pos%, +0.9rel
Leivo: 10:01 (D+), 0.00p60, 56.7pos%, +3.7rel

Lindholm: 9:39 (B+), 0.00p60, 47.3pos%, -7.0rel
Kapanen: 10:53 (C), 3.66p60, 64.9pos%, +15 0rel
Johnsson: 7:04 (D-), 0.00p60, 63.0pos%, +11.2rel

Rielly: 18:08 (A+), 2.76p60, 49.6pos%, -6.6rel
Hainsey: 16:33 (A-), 0.00p60, 58.7pos%, +7.5rel

Jake: 18:55 (A), 1.06p60, 49.9pos%, -5.9rel
Zaitsev: 18:20 (B+), 0.00p60, 51.8pos%, -2.5rel

Dermott: 15:16 (B-), 0.66p60, 63.6pos%, +14.1rel
Marincin: 12:35 (C-), 0.00p60, 63.4pos%, +11.9rel

For me Brown has been worse. And, we already saw last year Kadri and Brown had zero chemistry when they tried it.

Brown has been terrible, a black hole. Kadri hasn't even been doing very well and well, Leivo, he isn't making the best of it unless he gets some PP time. It's not good. I would throw Kappy up with Leivo and Kadri to give the line a new dynamic and if that fails obviously out goes Leivo.

Brown was very good last night. He plays a 200 ft game and is not always noticeable. To me last night it became more obvious that Levio is struggling to help that line as he is far to slow to get to spot when Brown has directed the D man towards him and he is two steps to slow to get there.
Levio to me is an issue on that line and a speedy forward would look better but he needs to have some Jam as well.

Agreed. There were a couple sequences that I wanted to cut together just to show people why Marincin gets pretty decent shot metrics. He is absolutely terrific not only at defending against zone entries, but also at forcing the dump-ins. That along with his reach and positioning also makes for a good PK player.

he pressures real well in the neutral zone.

I saw an undisciplined disaster on ice. I saw superstar players trying to get points by the bunch and neglect playing real cerebral hockey. That game much like many games last year was an embarrassment to structured hockey world wide. Enjoy the points totals but fear for your odds winning a cup or even a round if that's how they play.

I first look to Babcock and DJ Smith on this. I repeat much of last year was the same and this not about a 3 game sample.

it's hard to argue that babcock's leafs have ever looked like a well-structured team, that's for sure.

Babs sees rookie Henri Jokiharju last night, and wonders why he has to pick between Ozhiganov, Marincin and Holl as his options.

Can't blame him for being a little jealous.

Rookie 19 year old Dman has 3 assists 5 Shots on net and ends up a +3 in and game his team gave up 7 goals.

Lilly was the best dman in camp.

it's babcock's choice to never give kids the opportunity to play (unless they're top 5 picks).

Brown's lacklustre play goes back to last season

The guy who has surprised me the most however, is AJ
No real jump like we saw

I agree 100%. All 3 have been bad and I would add in Zaitsev as well.
Yeah, Zaitsev is just not good. I don’t think there is a way to get rid of him though. He is not tradable.

Is buy out an option?
