Post-Game Talk: Leafs Win 7-2 against Philly

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

*Moneypuck has the Flyers at 63% on their 'deserve to win O'meter', how does that happen?
NaturalStatTrick basically says the Leafs were ahead on chances until they scored the 6th goal and then gave up. I technically watched but hardly paid attention in the 3rd.

Two Leaf goals came almost immediately after the Flyers missed cross-crease one-timers (one was I think Konecny to Couturier who whiffed on the shot, another ?? to Michkov who hit the side of the net).

Honesty, if we won in Nashville, we would had lost this game. This is the definition of a trap game. A Tuesday Home game in between two road trips against a team that wants to tank.

Glad they won big, hope this is the confidence boaster they need.

There was a moment where I thought they were going to play down to their competition again, but that would require consuming large quantities of beer between periods like the “Ossington Sk8ters”

I am having some reservations about moving to Belize
I have a younger brother that has been living in Belize for 20 years. He married a local and has 2 children with her.
He loves it down there. He says at night you can sit on his front porch and watch the cartel submersibles cruise by in the ocean with just the clear canopy sticking above the water. Commerce heading north. Lol

Shows how irrelevant fancy stats are. They must have been counting expected goals while ignoring real goals. They would be right at home here.

Nope Leafs own the ROW tiebreaker.

and It's not particularly close 42 to 38.
Unless the Leafs lose both Florida games and the Tampa game, I dount the tiebreaker ever comes into play. Assuming they split those two Panthers games, the Leafs should win the division by several points because of how easy their schedule is. Tampa will likely come in second place for the same reason.

Missed the game, glad they won big.

*Knies led the F group with 17:15 TOI. Good to see nobody overworked.
*All four lines played more than 10 min. I would have liked to see Berube look at something different. There has to be some combination that offers more in the bottom 6.

Time for the next, keep 'er going, eh.

Because the people that run moneypuck don't have a f***ing clue what they are talking about

Tampa could be in first place by Saturday night with home wins over Utah and NYI and a Leafs split with SJ and LA on the road. Leafs could get first back with a win over the Ducks on Sunday.

Thinking with Tkachuk injured and Ekblad missing first two games of round 1, might be better to face Florida in round 1 rather than round 2.

It's a fair point, but I still think the Leafs are better off playing the first wild card in round one. I still don't think Tkachuk is coming back this year other than in a Florida elimination game, so I wouldn't even worry about him in the second round if Florida gets that far. There isn't even a whisper of him skating yet.

Schedule strength looks like a wash for all three teams to me.

Leafs get SJ, Ducks, Florida x2, Tampa, LAK, Canes. CBJ, Sabres, Habs, Wings
Florida get Utah, Habs x2, Leafs x2, Tampa, Wings x2, Sens, Sabres, NYR
Bolts get Utah, Isles x2, Leafs, Panthers, Sabres x2, Rangers x2, Sens

I was just thinking this same thing.

And even if the Cats were fully healthy to start, get the toughest matchup out of the way and if the Leafs win (big "if" obviously) the confidence boost would be massive.

Also, I'm absolutely terrified of drawing the Sens in round one. If the Leafs lost, there would simply be no living it down. Case in point, many of us are still traumatized by the Habs choke job and will be until our last days.

I know what you mean, but I'd still love to play them. Nothing can be worse than losing that time to MTL so screw it, bring it on. In for a penny, in for a pound and all that jazz. And beating OTT would maybe be a small first step to recovering from that MTL debacle.

Also, hockey is basically nothing more than entertainment, and playing Ottawa would be very entertaining.

Ya.. Matthews played hard, and was defensively decent. But nothing on the offensive side was working tonight. Knies did get two points.
Agree. And although I liked his compete and his defensive play, I'll say what I have been saying all season. He is paid to do more than just that. He is 3rd on the team in goals and barely ahead of Knies.

I keep lying to myself and saying he is saving it for the playoffs. Guess we'll see.

This core is 100% done if they lose to the Sens in round 1. That would be the cherry on top of all the playoff failures.

It does go to show though that a trap game can be overcome if so desired.
It sure can and IMHO the entire concept of a "trap game" is just dumb.

You're playing a bad team, everyone is going on and on about how it's a trap but this so called "trap" is in plain view, how can you even call something that's sitting right in front of you in plain view a trap? It's not a trap, there are no surprises, it's just another game and it's against a bad team so just go out there and pound them. What's so hard about that?

They pounded PHI last night, good but they should have pounded NSH as well.

It would be the most exciting first round series in a really kong time! All home games too

I’ve read Numerous posts throughout the season on how bad Ottawa is, currently we are on an 0 and 5 streak against them. Can’t wait to read the pgt’s.

The one thing about a series with TB, is that we've consistently scored alot of goals and Vasilevsky hasn't looked good vs us.
Also factor in the only series win this group of players has had was against that team, so it wouldn't be shocking if they have a good mentality when facing this matchup.

These are the goal totals we've put up against TB the past few years

5, 5, 5 ,4, 1, 4, 3, 7, 4, 5, 2, 2, 3, 4, 4

LMAO. I'm just thinking about all the posts I've read over the last 8 years about how bad all the other teams are. Boston was supposed to fade to dust about 5 years ago, Florida wasn't even worth thinking about and on and on it goes.

I always get excited about the playoffs. Regardless of past failures, the future has yet to be written, we have good goaltending, hoping that maybe somehow our group of cupcakes can find it in themselves to if not win the cup, at least win a couple of rounds and give me some exciting entertainment. GLG!!

I think Tampa may be the least likely first round opponent for the Leafs.
