Good game overall. Predictable bit of a letdown in the 3rd. They should have lots left in the tank for tomorrow.

Not to worry about it, but the refs did have an impact on the 3rd period.
Marner, good game kid.
Hope Benoit has the ice pack tonight.
Knies isn't playing the way he was before he got clocked.
Woll could use some instruction with puck handling.
Robertson with a solid game.
Willy, when you're rockin'n'rollin you're a treat, but my god you can float like few others.

I'm wavering on whether I think AM should rest until the playoffs. But here's where Leaf management has screwed themselves: If they do that, and Marner continues to carry the team, ending up with 110+ points, they are going to have to pay the piper. But how do they justify it to Matty if they throw 14 mil at MM? Answer: they dont', because they can't do it, no matter how good Marner plays the rest of the season. This is Matthews team. They gave it to him when they gave him the C. So they offer Marner 13.2, which is still too much, IMO. But if he wants top dollar, they have to let him walk, because your Captain is gonna raise a stink, and could ask out of town. And if you rest 34 and Marner carries the team, you can't trade him at the deadline, either.

Mind you, if all of this results in a cup, then who cares? Marner can walk. The curse is broken. Time to party until September. We'll worry about the future then.

There’s no scenario where Marner is going to be traded at the deadline anyway.

Also there is nothing to suggest Matthews would “raise a stink” if Marner were to get paid more than him which could happen (if marner is giving more term) but is highly unlikely either way.

Yes, they have a good record without Matthews. That’s well established. They are not better without him however.
