Wow. 3 page post game thread?

Saw a lot of players on Utah that I would take here happily.

Kesselring
McBain
Crouse
Hayton

I’m good with Carlo but we couldn’t have gotten any of those guys instead of the Laughton trade?

Still early days and hoping Laughton can be what we need him to be.

Cheers

Not a chance Utah is giving anyone up in a playoff race their first season. Only so many sellers to choose from.

Another ugly performance. I'll take the win, but after dominating the first 20 minutes, that crumbled quickly. Ref's were brutal, but so was Toronto.

Laughton has not been good at all so far. Need to get him away from Domi, such an odd fit.

Two players who aren't that good defensively 5v5... it's no real shock.

Second goal for me clearly showing what goes wrong right now...

2 player goes on the same player
Jt made gave ul and fantastic effort to backcheck AND....... you've got Nylander uninterested to be there and just let him sliding. Just give 1-2 slide to back check, passing lane to Maatta would never be there and this goal would never happened. That's exactly the type of reason i'm hard on him and it's about 1 play or 1 game, he played that way last 5 game... When his team fighting for 1st spot and where he should be a team leader...
And on NHL.com game recap Willy was one of the three stars. I didn’t see the game but he must have good other than when he was being Willy.
He loves easy hockey and I don’t see that changing now which is a big reason why I’ve lowered my expectations and it feels like they’re going out in round one again.

This team is following the exact same pattern it ALWAYS does and that I posted about when it was clear in Dec what they were doing.

- Bad start
- Best team in NHL through Nov and most of Dev
- Mid Jan
- Come March the team looks like they haven't been playing hockey together all season and struggles to find any form at all.

Then we hope and pray they magically go back to playing how they did in Nov and we lose in round 1.

They collapse every March. Is it a core feature? It's a new coach. It's sort of a new makeup of a team..must be the core right?
At this point I think it comes down to their love of golf……..

I said they would start another winning streak by taking this one in OT. Shootout is close enough. They will roll off a bunch of wins in a row now just to irritate all of you.
Can you share the winning Lotto Max numbers for Friday?

Berube doesn't know how lol. He moves someone for 30 seconds and puts it back. I don't think he can coach this group. They needed a Cooper and brought in this guy.

Leafs still can't stitch together a coherent team template. The choices are always bad. They don't know what they want period, total mess.

Hard coach
Soft core
Defensive minded coaching staff
Offensive minded core
Anti fighting organization
Fighting coach wants guys like Reaves
Preach rational cap expenditure
Overpay forwards and load for offense

The team is run by basketcases

Not trying to flame you, just puzzled on one thing.

I've always considered Keefe a defensive coach first and, outside of the numbers screaming it to be true, the big difference in watching Keefe coached Leafs teams vs. Babcock/Berube teams all but confirms it to be true.

I'm waiting to see if Berubes style translates more to the playoffs but I wouldn't call it "defensive" by any means. Not compared to what we saw the last few years.

Goaltending makes them look a lot better defensively. The goaltenders are entering uncharted waters in terms of games played in a season.

They arent playing Berubes game. Half of the time they weren't playing Keefe's either.

The team is a runaway train at the core. The core and it's players care more for personal accolades than team success and this was demonstrated with the Matthews quest for 70. Marner playing 30 mins in a game like 5 games before the POs started. Nylander for 100pts.

Look at Morgan. What is he even doing on the ice? This is the least accountable team I have ever seen in my life and people wonder why fans that want to win freak out.

6 decades of failure.

Well, I'd rather go into the playoffs with this D and these goalies than a Campbell/Samsonov starter, that's for sure.

One guy chased out of the league for sucking so bad and another as a mediocre. .891 backup on a good defensive team.

Our two guys have shown they win games by themselves and thats the hallmark of almost every cup winner. Gotta have that goalie.

I think they play pretty much the same all year, it’s the opposition that changes. We’ll see if they can adapt or it’ll be more of the same.
On the bright side, we can only be pleasantly surprised this spring and not upset if they lose out early.

Really bad that they blew a multi-goal lead again when playing an inferior opponent but luckily Clutch Marner got the extra point.

They do all sorts of nonsense and most of it revolves around falling apart. Last night they were playing like please fire the coach bad.

No doubt. They at least have a chance, with every goalie in the past they’d be looking up at WC spot they way they’ve played under Berubes system. At the same time, we shouldn’t be shocked if the goalies save percentage is reduced in the playoffs.

My hope and cope is that they are getting the bad games at the right time and they'll peak by the end of the season. I don't think they played that bad, half the game was pretty good.

Marner had an awful game. 3 or 4 big time turnovers. Any other player would have easily gotten benched.

Overall they've struggled with their forecheck quite a bit. They love to dump the puck or cycle the puck with zero support or effort. Turnovers has also been an issue.

This was after a team meeting. Perhaps they just aren't coachable.
