Matthews with the double hit. Takes Marner out too. It made me laugh he was seeing red.
hopefully in the playoffs teams rock his shit every shift. He looks a man possessed the same and subsequent shift

otherwise he looked like a guy who was trying to not be noticed.

Marner was emotionally rattled all game.

loved his reaction after his SO goal

That guy needs some perspective. He can walk into an office and get paid $100 million or thereabouts, lock in his situation and all of his emotional angst goes out the window. Don't like Toronto down the road, ask for a trade... life's not that hard for him.

I volounteer to be Mattys reverse hype man. I will piss him off before games and heckle him in teh stands
just go and rob his collection of gucci bags and that'll get him up

probs brings out a conn smythe level run from him lol

Clearly they need to figure it out. They have had a horrendous schedule for over a month. The refs kept Utah alive early on.

I am almost glad we aren’t playing our best hockey this exact second. It matters when the playoffs start.

Get Tanev back. Get the new guys some practices. Despite the despair and panic of our fanbase - they are decent players and will fine.

Its a win for the Leafs, but it feels so unsatisfying when they looked good for the first 20 mins and then struggled the rest of the 40 mins. Hard to look at this team and think 'Damn these guys are going to do some serious damage in the playoffs'. If I were a free agent and was a great player, not sure I'd want to ever sign with this current version of the Leafs when it feels like they're going to drag you down instead of motivating you to want to play your best.

Not sure what's up with the Leafs, but most of them and especially our stars don't have much fire in them alot of the time. Even when they score they often don't look like they're happy and having fun compared to players from other teams.

Doesn't really feel like we won, it was ugly and unimpressive.

Matthews looked like a resemblance of his old self for the last 10-15 mins. Possibly encouraging? Hopefully...I haven't seen that or expected anything from him in a while.
Except his old self didn't miss the net on nearly every attempt. He is really off this season. I wonder if there's something we don't know.

Looked great in the 1st, but then … yikes. There were two garbage calls against (the Benoit trip that CLEARLY wasn’t, followed shortly by OEL getting penalized for getting knocked into Veggie), but that was a drop in the deep bucket of bad play.

Take the 2 points and run. And gotta start playing better real soon.

Only real positives outside the first period:
- Benoit superman punch
- I thought Matthews played well, loved the fiery hit and he was creating a lot of high quality chances
- Woll made plenty of good saves
- Nice shootout goals by AM and Mitch

Could have used a roster trade to shake things up a bit you know what I mean?

Matthews finally shows up in the 3rd, he actually tried, used his size, speed to create a scoring chance for himself otherwise totally invisible. Watch Edmonton, Colorado, McDavid, McKinnon look like they want to win every game, every shift, I'm not sure what goes on in Matthews' head but he can so easily play in cruise mode even tho he can play at the level of these other great players. He might play 3 games in the playoffs but TO needs 4/5 games from him to win a series.

His first game after his long injury recup was special, I think he and Marner had 5 points each that game, that's what he/them are capable of, why aren't we seeing that? Are they saving themselves for the playoffs, the team as a whole hasn't been playing like they deserve to make the playoffs and Matthews/Marner are primarily responsible, I'd say this has been going on for 30 games.

Yes they get their points and that's due to talent but because there's so little talent behind them they need to be far more assertive both now and in the playoffs, they need to earn their money via points and possession, not just points.

TO outshot Utah 13-4 and played them fairly evenly till mid way in the 2nd, then it was all Utah except for Matthews' one shot in the 3rd, the only time he asserted himself the entire game. TO ended up outshot 32-26, horrendous, this team needs to be shaken up so much, I ache when I watch the games.

The talent is there but TO needs a coach that can see what's going on and coach, not role out the same old, same old.
