This team had 2 days off and wow we looked exhausted lol like outside of of Marner and Matthews this team has played 4 games in 2 weeks!!!!! Why are we tired. Domi looks atrocious. Zero bite to any part of his game. He’s plsying a bottom 6 role trying to score… dude! Do you even know your role here?
Domi plays hard 2 out of 10...that why we are team number 6. This leopard will never change its spots.
I don't doubt he looks after himself physically, so it must be a dedication and focus reason. His celebrity must distract him because he NEVER competes for more than 2 games in a row.

26 - 0 when leading after two periods

That's an impressive and quietly encouraging stat. Tanev has been a big part of this as I see other D Men and even forwards willing to eat pucks now, much like Gio did. I saw the Habs take a very average team to the Final Four just a decade ago through insane puck blocking and commitment to defense.

Leafs should add one more strong playoff ready D Man and a strong willed forward upfront at the deadline. I still don't have confidence in this team to win it all, but, there is at least a formula in their play that they didn't have in the past. There is far more conscience effort to squeak out the close games of which there are many in the playoffs.

Players are more in the crease than in the past and the muscle memory alone will help when the playoffs begin. Of course I will remain a skeptic due to history.

Stolarz brilliant again. I think he should be our starter for Game 1 of the playoffs. He doesn’t allow those soft soul crushing goals that we’ve seen from our goalies in the Core 4 era.

I thought the defence was ok but no way can we go into the playoffs with a defence minus a Tanev or McCabe. Treliving has to get a No. 4 somehow.

I agree with consensus that the Domi line was very poor. Domi aside from that nice pass to OEL on that goal has been more or less useless.

Very much like our first PP. Too much perimeter passing, not enough shots, and poor zone entries.

Glad to get the win, but yikes, the play of our team this year is concerning.
So was it concerning for you when keefe’s team played like sh.t in dog days of February? I am sure you sang some accolades to that dubas aberration of team non-stop. If they win a couple of rounds with their play being “concerning” in your terms, that’s enough entertainment for me. On a side note, devils are on track to be kicked out of the third place in Metro within a week or two. Cause keefe is a “genius coach” lol

I don’t hold grudges against players. I don’t play favourites. I comment on the plays they make or don’t make. Hating on players means you can never acknowledge when they play well. That’s dumb stuff.
So just because of that play “divine creature” deserves Matthews money? Auston himself doesn’t deserve “Matthews money” the way he plays this year.

They played a good game last night.

For the better part of the year they've been performing well. Furthermore their success has been coming in different ways than in the past. We just don't know if it will continue in the playoffs yet.

If there's one thing we can all agree on is that we hope to see this team be successful.

We can have our disagreements on what they should be doing to get there. But the end result for everyone should be the same. We all want to see them win the cup.

They go out in the first round they get a D.

Make it to the second round and that's a C. Out in the third round is respectable enough for a B. Get to the finals and hey, guess what, that's an A for you big boy.

If they win the cup they're on the Deans list summa cum laude.

Alright.. I have to say, I did not see Myers as being the top Leaf but it is not always easy to catch everything with game speed and TV camera angles.
That chart is clearly erroneous. Many posters are sure that Nylander had a terrible game, and I have been told by our infallible poster that Reeves was, in fact, absolutely useless.

Not what I would call a good game, but games at MSG rarely are. Shit ice... feels like they are playing with a bouncy ball and guys are just randomly swatting at it. The guys found a way to not be chasing that one... I think that made all the difference.

Stolarz is really f***ing good. Game in, game out. Solid. Always gives the team a great chance to win.

PP1 was lazy tonight. Very unimpressive.

Considering that Tanev was out and the Rangers are a desperate, though not great, team, it was a good job to find a way to win. Very timely goals to say the least.

Should be another desperate team on Sunday on a b2b. An honest effort in that one should start March out on the right foot.
This is why they should go all in. Imagine what Stolarz could do in the playoffs with another stud on the back end

Domi - does anyone have access to his corsi numbers the last few months? I feel he is just so weak from the defensive side of the game
He’s weak everywhere. For someone making 4 million a year he is useless. Zero bite to his game, soft, doesn’t make plays with the puck, he just seems to burst back and forth every shift without doing much of anything. He’s not even good defensively so what exactly does he bring for this team?? I’d trade him in heart beat to move money out as part of a big trade. Domi can skate! I just don’t know why he isn’t tougher as a player. He needs to find his role quick

He puzzles me as well

I miss Domi from last year.

Sure he still wouldn't shoot or play D, but he had fire.

Stolaraz stole us that game and we're back in 1st place. Mathews needs to get going, I wonder if he's still hurt.

Even though we don’t know the specifics of the injury, I’m pretty sure the team has been open that he will have to play through it for the rest of the season and they are managing it.

I read that as he needs surgery but the recovery time must be significant and they didn’t want to risk him being unavailable for the playoffs.

I hope OEL is ok, he is quietly having a terrific season. With an avg TOI of 21:01 and a third best +/- of +18, he's been a great #3-4 dman. I don't understand why Berube doesn't give him an extended stay on PP1 given their struggles all season. He's got a great shot and as witnessed last night, he moves into the open spaces well. The 5 forward unit or Rielly as the only dman isn't working.

The more I watch this season unfold, the more I am in agreement with you (and many others).
Parayko would be a great add if he's available.

For what it’s worth, since Jan 1st (21 games), our powerplay is 6th in the league at 28.9%.

It’s our PK that is the real concern.

I feel like that has a lot to do with the 2nd unit scoring quite a few. The went on a bender with Matthews out. The full first unit hasn’t been good the 2nd unit has been good when given enough time to setup.

With respect, you've been saying this all season, and meanwhile the team has won 7 of its last 8 games. The Leafs are winning the same way a lot of Cup champions have won: really good goaltending and timely scoring. You don't need to outshoot the other team every game.
I've been saying we played poorly when we played poorly. Most others are also saying we played poorly. It's great that we won 7 of our last 8. The way we're playing, and losing 6 of 9 right before that, and pacing for our second worst season of the last 5 years despite dominant goaltending is less great. You don't need to outshoot the other team every game, and goaltending is important and I'm hoping it can hold, but cup champions tend not to get doubled up like this and outshot over a season. I get that you like to pretend everything is roses, but some of us want to discuss what's actually happening to our team.
So was it concerning for you when keefe’s team played like sh.t in dog days of February?
How we play has always been a concern, but we never played this poorly over extended periods under Keefe. Heck, we even had better underlying play under Babcock. Also for the record, we were 39-18-3 in February under Keefe.

I'm more interested in a cup, and you generally want your play to not be concerning to get that.
On a side note, devils are on track to be kicked out of the third place in Metro within a week or two.
Not sure what New Jersey has to do with anything, but they don't seem to be in much danger, and they're still pacing 15 points more than last year and have a better goal differential than us...

I’m a big Woll stan

But Stolarz is the starting goalie on this team going into the playoffs. Woll has been great, Stolarz has been outstanding
