How on earth is Toronto not addressing a need? They are addressing their two biggest needs, they are adding a top four blueliner that hugely upgrades their D-core and they are adding a big, bruising forwards that addresses their paper soft lineup.

How on earth are they? Yes the guy shoots right and the other guys hits but how about the part where they play defense or offense or pk or pp?

Spurgeon sure does shoot right, but hes a puck moving dman that isnt replacing either Gardiner or Rielly on our PP, so you're acquiring a 5'9 dman to play in his own zone which doesnt make sense (aside from the fact that he shoots right). Greenway sure does play physical, but he is a developing player that doesnt yet play much special teams at all. Hes no where near ready to make a real positive impact on a playoff run. So the trade checks off two boxes out of 10. Not to mention the players you are subtracting offer as much if not more then they guys you are acquiring when you consider the roles that each guy you are losing/getting play/will play.

Why is it that Toronto fans start ridiculous offers then other Leafs fans jump in and defend it even when they know its an unbalanced trade ?

in all honesty people can throw out some dumb offers and Fenton might bite. pay special attention to former Preds players and players from Wisconsin who Suter might know.

Spurgeon would be your best defensive dman.

If he is infact this good, then the Wild should be a much better team
The only thing about the Wild that works properly is the defense and Spurgeon is an enormous part of that. Of course even the defense has been off-kilter with Dumba out and Fenton overloading on depth LD, but that's hardly on Spurgeon. He and Parise are maybe the only guys on the team that I don't really have complaints about this year.

He's better defensively then Rielly and Gardiner

And he's miles ahead Zaitsev, Hainsey, Dermott and Ozghianov.

So Yeah, he'd be the best defensive d-man on the Leafs roster.

Here's what you should do.
1.) Decide which metric(s) you think best reflect defensive ability
2.) Go look at how Spurgeon ranks in that/those metric(s)
3.) Extra credit: watch a Wild game or two to see if the data matches the eye test
4.) Reconsider your position

I'm going to start printing these off and putting them on my fridge.

His response so was out of touch I didn't even bother hitting reply.

He truly believes that Spurgeon couldn't unseat Gardiner and that Spurgeon couldn't help the Maple Leafs defensively.

Better yet, the truly believes the Leafs lack of physicality and push-back wouldn't be addressed by the addition Greenway to their bottom six.

He clearly hasn't watched either of these guys play but that didn't stop him from weighing in his his opinion.

Clueless.

Correct, it isn't, whereas the stuff you have said makes it painfully clear that you know next to nothing about the Minnesota players being discussed.

Here's a good tip: If you don't know anything about the players, it really doesn't help the conversation to hit reply and give your opinion. It's just a waste of everyone's time and it makes you look silly. Just avoid it.
