This is lowkey a Very important game despite how meaningless it looks because winning or losing this game might gain or cost the Leafs home ice advantage in the finals( if they even get that far )

the result of tonight’s game has zero impact on the eastern conference playoff standings and playoff picture. The Leafs already know that the sens will be their first round opponent and they know they will finish second best ranked in the East behind the Capitals. But it has a huge impact on overall league standings and it might decide home ice advantage in the final.

If the Leafs win against the wings in any fashion, they clinch 4th overall seed in the league standings ahead of every western conference team except #1 Winnipeg and #3 Vegas. Washington is #2 overall by the way. If they win tonight, The Leafs would have 108 points. They would finish ahead of the Stars who already have ended their season on a sour note last night, losing 5-1 to the Predators in Nashville . Dallas finished their schedule with 106 points. The LA Kings have 105 points now and can only max out at 107 points if they win their last game of the season tonight, against Calgary at home. So we need the Kings to lose tonight in regulation or in overtime /shootout and the leafs to win the game in any fashion. That way they will also finish behind Toronto in the league standings.

Even if they lose to Detroit tonight, the leafs and the stars would be tied with 106 points and 41 regulation wins each but the leafs would be still ahead of the stars because they have more regulation wins than them, 50 ROWs for Toronto > 48 ROWs for Dallas. And the amount of ROWs is the second tiebreaker. On the other hand, If they lose to the wings in regulation and the kings lose in overtime or shootout, The leafs and the kings would be tied with 106 points each but the leafs would lose the first tiebreaker to the kings because LA has 43 RW and Toronto 41 RW, despite LA having less ROWs (47) than TOR (50)

If the kings win in regulation and the leafs lose in overtime/shootout, the same scenario happens. Leafs and kings would be tied with 107 points each but LA would have the edge over Toronto on RWs.
