Just recently there was an article about players signing for $100k less than NHL minimum so that they can be recalled for emergency basis without counting against the Cap next year.

Is this the first time using this loophole?
Small correction. The NCAA free agents that the Leafs signed this year took $100K less than the maximum, (not the minimum), salary that they could take as entry level contracts. The lower salary will make them eligible to be an emergency recall.

The emergency recall rules have been in place for some time, but I believe it is the first time that the Leafs have signed free agents to a lesser amount so that they would be eligible.

By the way, it is not "a loophole", but an intentional part of the CBA.

I hope this game is a total creampuff. The team has bigger fish to fry.

Go Leafs Go!
Beat the Dead Things!!!
Interested in seeing what gets played on 3rd and 4th lines.
Once the playoffs start, I imagine a few people on ltir will come off as the cap will be done.

Excited to watch Lorentz - Laughton - Jarnkrok rack up 20 minutes of ice time! Maybe throw in Benoit and Myers in that range too while we’re at it!
Yeah I'd really like to see Laughton and Lorentz replicate the Marner MacDavid goal from 4 Nations again tonight

Thanks for the clarification.

While not a loophole, I'm curious if it was negotiated on purpose or just an oversight?

Are there many of these, and if not why not? What player would turn down better odds of NHL salary over 100k / days available. Odds are most players aren't getting a full season, so it isn't likely to be $100k difference. ($100k / 186) * 10 days for example would be the loss in a 10 day call-up. Compared to 0 days * one $billion if they can't fit your contract in.

I am literally just going to watch this, and sit on the edge of my seat for no injuries, not even look at the score lol

Berube should bench & fine any player who even thinks about trying to block a shot tonight.

Tanev & Matthews, I'm talking to you specifically if it wasn't clear already.

Meaningless game but not completely meaningless. It might still be worth trying to stay ahead of Dallas. Never know who the team would face if they went on a serious run.

Dallas can't pass us. We're tied in points and regulation wins but have two more ROWs so we're ahead of them. I guess the Kings can still pass us if you want to scoreboard watch lol.

You're right, I meant the Kings. They're the only team that could overtake the Leafs.

This is not the original 6 match up Bettman would like to introduce new hockey fans to....or maybe it is ...6-5 anyone ?

Would be eaten alive. Freddy Gauthier of dmen as far as willingness to use his size
Yeah but he has all those great skills handling puck Bouwmeester level wheels, a hard and accurate shot, a huge reach and has a great hockeyQ. Can QB the PP, covers a lot of ice on the pk. What's not to like?
