Why bother throwing assets away again?
They do every year ... rinse repeat.
Every playoff team does. Hardly unique to the Leafs. With this stupid cap world, it's one of the few times you can move stuff, I just expect it. Tre kept our first last year, I like that. This third is capital.

Exactly. Now they’ll trade another first rounder for a deadline rental D in a desperate bid to win a playoff round.
and yet every player we get is better than liljegren come playoff time

2021: Giordano, Lyubuhskin
2022: McCabe, Schenn
2023: Lyubuhskin, Edmundson

Schenn costed a 3rd
Lyubushkin 1.0 costed a 2nd + Cap dump
Lyubushkin 2.0 costed a 3rd + 6th
Edmundson costed a 3rd

that isn't a crop of elite defencemen, for the most part it is steady, reliable, and PHYSICAL bottom pairers. So basically Liljegren was worth what most of those guys were, and yet with the way liljegren un-developed, if you asked me if I wanted 2024 liljegren or any of those guys come playoff time, I'm taking every single one of those guys.

Watching the world series and the Dodgers manager Dave Roberts had a great quote.

Said, we've always been talented but haven't always been tough.
Said this year they learned how to fight, this year they learned how to brawl.

Hopefully we see that this season with the Leafs.

Not sure we have the right core for a brawl.

Thank god you don’t GM then. Keefe was an idiot for playing some of those bums in the playoffs and was fired for a lack of playoff success.

Well having the biggest Free Agent signing might helped a little even though he didn’t do much in the WS. But having that guy sure helped lured Yamamoto and he pitched a gem.

Benoit was barely hanging on. The guy can’t move the puck. Physically he held his own but killed the puck every time. He was smart enough to lay a few big hits to endear himself to management though.
Ya, that's why the Athletic gave him a B + in the Boston series. As did the Sun. Spin all you want, you're wrong. You want to see a guy who couldn't move the puck in the playoffs, type "Lil" and "grenade "Into Google.

I'm out, he's gone, best of luck.

The same Athletic that ranked Kerfoot and Kadri as equals?

The QC
I think Liljegren slept with Berube's wife or killed his dog.

We're 10 games in with our 3rd pairing being somewhere between awful and okay each night and he's not getting a sniff at any minutes and apparently practicing as a LHD so that Myers can keep his preferred RHD. Give the kid a few games to see what he can do!

Also, with Domi playing Center it makes more sense than ever to have Robertson in for Holmberg.
I think you just described every 3rd pair in the league. And if you can get more okay than awful you're looking good!

Moving on from Timmy won't negatively impact this team imo. Wish he was able to be better, maybe he can be in SJ, but really, if he's not on the Leafs why would we care?
