Pre-Game Talk: Leafs vs Flames

Spending way too much time in their own zone lately; nothing good ever comes from that. It looks like they're trying to kill penalties half the time they're 5v5. PK has looked futile the last little while, too. Need to get that good mojo back in a hurry.
it's the biggest problem with our game. They keep collapsing into a PK defensive box instead of pressuring the puck carrier. It allows them to just work the perimeter and look for chances.

If we do get the puck out....they dump it with no support cause they need a change. Lose possession and it starts all over again.

The contrast between the two quotes below is quite something eh?

So the highest paid player in the league needs to be "helped out a little bit more" by a 22 old winger making less than 1M, eh? I mean it's nice that Knies is saying that.... but when you taking that much cap hit (taking money away from other players that can help the team), accountability is needed.

Lost to Ottawa, Florida, Vegas, Colorado

If we can't beat the Flames I wouldn't be too optimistic going into the playoffs. We have to win a few in a row here, or at least get 3/4 points in the next 2 games. Had a huge opportunity to take the division lead and the guys just don't want it.
We can beat the Flames and we have. Will we beat them again is the question.

Remember that feeling of winning the draft lottery and getting matthews. I thought for sure that was our time. If only we could go back and hire a proven GM and build it the way it was supposed to be. Surround Matthews with proven winners right from the start not losers like Joe ‘why stress we’re in first place’ Thornton

For all of the whining around here, the Leafs win this game and they would be 2 points off the division lead with a game in hand. Time to start the rebuild.

it's like how it always is

samsonov, andersen, campbell, laughton, bertuzzi....etc players not named the core 4 are always taking blame for games, but nah the core 4 do no wrong and it's always some other joe's job to figure his shit out and play perfect hockey.

the team has and always will be the core 4 and others, they can try to frame themselves as "we are a team" but they aren't. It always the depth guys getting punished, always them being called out, always them being benched, but when it comes to the core 3 guys, nylander gets benched once a blue moon but marner and matthews could be at fault for 3 goals against directly and they'd still lineup for the next pp we get.

accountability only exists for the non-core players

Yeah, I don’t quite get this defeatist attitude as we are obviously right there in the hunt. My glass half full attitude right now is that (hopefully) they’re getting these hiccups out of their system now and not in April. I can’t blame anyone for being somewhat concerned though as they’ve looked like unwashed ass against the teams you want to make a statement against.

That’s Berube hockey
Every opponent now has lot's of film for the pre scout. So you can see where the issues are in our NZ and Box plus 1 defense. Don't give much up off the rush but as soon as the other team gets some possession, we are hard pressed to get it back. Sens last night confused the coverage and popped Sanderson back door. Was perfect.

We don't have a plan B..

I don't think it's anything more than the standard ups and downs of a season. Before this recent stretch, the Leafs had won 5 or 6 in a row coming out of the Four Nations tournament. Just as they weren't the '78 Canadiens during that stretch, nor are they the San Jose Sharks during this stretch. They will come out of this and win 5 or 6 in a row again.

So by your math they are a .500 team. Just not good enough considering the pay structure of the core 5

There is no accountability for Marner or Matthews

Who the f*** cares ? Certainly not the core 4 !!!

If the Flames want the 2 points bad enough, our Leafs will bow down and give them the points.

This Leafs team lacks compete, let's wait till next year once again !!!
Lacks compete? Come on man, weren't you watching in November?

By some miracle florida has lost b2b games

We also have 2 games against them in the next month and another against tampa. If we don’t win this division somehow, I’ll be waiting to blow this core up by end buzzer of game 4-7 of the first round.
