It's not by definition a "must win game", although if we are being sticklers, than winning this game would almost gurantee a playoff berth, where we would be 1 point out, but to win the division it's almost needed. We aren't going to go 10-0 to end the season, so we need to win the games against the bad teams.
after the nashville game I was hoping the team would win 3 of the next 4. They dropped the ball against SJ but beat LA, now we need this game and hopefully the Panthers game too.
the only real must win games are game 7, lose and you go home after them
I agree the only must win is when you would be mathematically eliminated from obtaining an objective. Too funny I saw my 1st must win 2 or 3 weeks ago. lol!

I'm not him but I think it would be great.
If we win, well...f*** the Sens, end of story. If we lose, it might finally be the steaming hot cherry on the embarrassment cake leading to significant (and needed) change.
Also you just know that the Sens want the Leafs more than any other team. Look at how they play us in the regular season for crying out loud, it's always full intensity. Would be amazing to give them a be careful what you wish for moment.

They could win the Stanley Cup and they'd still be the little brother regardless, and they know that. But that feeling gives them motivation to play their best and i admire that. No question the Sens would give us everything they've got in a playoff series and dare I say they'd have a damn good shot to win the series unless (and perhaps even if!) we match that intensity.

Ottawa currently 1 and 7 vs Florida, 5 and 0 vs leafs, Tampa has been a coin flip.

Put me on the side that worries about Ottawa the least ainec. They simply aren't in the class of TB or Florida, i take that matchup in a heartbeat. Sure they'd be motivated, but who isn't, and we'd also OWN their barn for away games. They're pretenders, bring it on, it isn't supposed to be easy.

The best case scenario would be Tampa beating Florida in the first round, as the Leafs would match up extremely well against Tampa in the second round.
Don't bypass Ottawa they accomplished there goal making the playoffs .
Now the pressure will be off.

I might be misreading your post so forgive me, but if you don't think Ottawa would give anything less than a laundry-machine-full-of-cocaine level of effort against the Leafs in the playoffs then I don't know what to tell you.

I don't disagree, but it's still a favourable match-up for the Leafs relative to playing a team like Florida.

We've shown we can consistently lose to teams both better and worse than us in the playoffs for almost a decade now.
Ottawa is an easier team on paper by far but the mental pressure on us playing Ottawa would be ENORMOUS. This team doesn't respond well to mental pressure.
We have to beat who we play. No one is easy.

I don't think the players feel the same way you do. I doubt they feel any different, or more, pressure against Ottawa than they would against Tampa, Florida, Montreal, etc. If anything, they have the benefit of basically having no road games in the series. We'll see what happens. Unless Tampa goes on a massive winning streak to end the season, Toronto/Ottawa is pretty much baked in at this point.

I don't think the regular season means much. Remember those years where the Leafs had Boston's number in the regular season, and then....the playoffs are a different beast. I think Ottawa would have a very tough time wth the Leafs in the first ronud.
I guess they're kind of a wild card to me. We just don't know how the "playoff" variant of Ottawa will play us.
I think things are developing nicely in all seriousness, as you've predicted.

It's because they get up for us and they're just another team for the Leafs. That changes come playoffs, I'd prefer we face them ainec. Let the two Florida teams destroy each other. Ottawa will play hard, nothing to lose, but they don't scare me at all if we show up. Nothing is easy, deliver and we will swamp the Sens.

Absolutely. Plus it should be a great series to watch, which is the other reason I'd like the Leafs to finish first.
