You asked what more you want from Bertuzzi, I gave you things he hasn't done well.

He's been fine but was advertised as an amazing playoff performer.

Everyone else has been bad or been fine, no one has been good.

Matthews has been the best out of all the "fine" players.

Matthews has also not nearly been good enough in that role as evidenced by being down 3-1, outscored by a Jake DeBrusk, so it doesn’t matter. Only he and the Leafs know how much health is an issue.

We all know what superstar led success looks like. And it’s not life and death to score 3 goals, dead on the PP, and a fraction of the offensive output as in the regular season.

It's just getting old that after like 6 years people are always trying to blame depth or something else for the teams playoff problems and when people suggest making a change to either coaching or the core or both then we just hear excuse after excuse. Now we gotta see that the newer additions haven't done anything, but silence on that 3rd line that has 0 points and Robertson who we were told would be able to score goals for us. Jarnkrok is on year 2 where he's invisible during the playoffs and silence, but the newer guys who have been in on most of our scoring are the ones getting brought up more than the actual problems and need to be better.

Jarnkrok has never been a playoff performer and is adding nothing, Holmberg simply isn’t very good, Robertson isn’t being effective either. Kampf is utterly useless and way overpaid

Bert and Domi specifically are being talked about right now because of one posters claims in this thread that they are playing well enough where others are not, which is not true. They are not being singled out. If anything they are being included. Included in the criticism, as they should be. We have several threads where the core are being picked apart, as has goaltending, as are special teams and coaching.

Honestly, what do you need Bertuzzi to be doing in isolation? Do Matthews job and drag him to productivity? What else do you need, him to kill penalties for Mitch? Score all the goals missing from Nylander being out? Lead for John Tavares? Stop shots for Samsonov? Within the scope of what he’s brought here to do, at his salary. He’s pretty much doing it.

I agree with this but I still not that interested in him re-signing. I do like that whatever his warts and limitations are, he does have a pulse though.

I’ve no real problem with any of the “snot” additions from the summer. Bertuzzi has been battling all series with the rat and if Samsonov could make a f***ing save we’d be better off. Domi is getting points and while he’s taken some dumb penalties that wouldn’t matter as much if we had a powerplay worth a damn. Reaves has made two glaring errors but again, it wouldn’t be so bad if we had a real goalie and our special teams weren’t shit. If Keefe chooses to sit Reaves by all means do so, but it’s not like he’s the biggest problem costing us.

The main issues are the same issues we’ve had the entire time under Keefe. Stars disappearing, shit special teams, and bad goaltending. Sheldon continues to make the same mistakes he made 4 years ago and has seemingly learned nothing in that time span.

I’m not that interested in keeping him either but I don’t think it’s right to scapegoat the temporary supporting cast for what seems to be permanent issues with the core.

Who exactly do you think is doing that?

Pretty anyone who is calling out Bertuzzi by name at all. He’s literally doing what he’s supposed to be doing and producing the way you think a secondary offensive player should be after 4 games. Has he been mixed up in plays where a goal has gone in as a result? Of course, but his job also isn’t to play perfect New Jersey Devils defensive hockey. He’s supposed to be mixing it up with Marchand. Those plays do cost you PP chances against.

Of all the things that have gone wrong this series, he’s not even worth mentioning. Btw, this is not a pitch to re-sign him or anything to do with Treliving in case anyone wants to go there.

Kampf hasn't been useless but he really does need to be better on the draws. He's the #1PKer and is 40% in the dot this series. They have been playing well enough 5v5 even with Matthews not being 100% for 2 games now. We have highly paid players doing nothing 5v5 and on the PP and a 3rd line that has done nothing and all we've been told is 2 of the players on that 3rd line are 2 of our best depth goal scorers. 2 of our so called best PKers in Marner and Jarnkrok are both healthy and you'd think the PK improves but it gets worse and then we sit one of the guys who helped our PK towards the end of the season after we trade for him and even stopped playing him as much on the PK over Marner. The problems have been the same things for years and it's coaching and special teams. Previous years you could say goaltending but I don't think Sammy is at the top of our problems. If those star players dominated on the PP like other top offensive teams do we aren't talking about Bertuzzi and Domi.

I wish McMann were healthy enough to play. Not that I think he’d make a world of difference but it would’ve been fun seeing his speed and physicality with this group of forwards in this series. Human body is so weird, guy got his legs a little tangled with that shrimp DeBrincat and it cost him 3+ weeks of playing time.
