Post-Game Talk: Leafs tie Season Series with Senators

Patches in for Robertson, who I don't dislike, was a revelation. I mean, maybe it's because Domi has a spark after that OT winner, but that line looked a million times more effective with Pacioretty on the wing. Even in the brief moments Holmberg was there and Patches was up with JT and Willy it look good. I just think it's not the right mix with Robertson on the line.
Domi himself is a bit of a misfit, but he's at least very skilled and can elevate in big moments and has a bit of the pest-like, 'x-factor' quality to him so you learn to live with it. Robertson is another misfit though who also doesn't seem to have a defined role on the team, so having them both in the lineup becomes a problem for getting the right matchup and developing lines with identities. With Patches you get a heavy guy with some skill and veteran experience who suits the style of play this team is trying to deploy much more, and now you have a line with a proper identity to it.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Rick and Morty. The humor is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Rick's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation - his personal philosophy draws heavily fromNarodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realize that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Rick and Morty truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Rick's existencial catchphrase "Wubba Lubba Dub Dub," which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Dan Harmon's genius unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools... how I pity them. 😂 And yes by the way, I DO have a Rick and Morty tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- And even they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand.
And to be really fair, although with no requirement of a science degree. Looney Tunes dives into the societal problems of its day, although many of those problems still exist. Each of the main characters deal exclusively with problems that effect them most.

Philly against Bos is the best I can remember.

First Bos blows a 3-0 series lead, then they blow a 3-0 lead in game 7.

For all the horrific things the Leafs have done, that was actually worse.

211 times a team has gone up 3-0. Only four times has a team come back from that deficit.

And it's not the only time Boston has blown a large playoff series lead...

Only thing is though, they won the cup the year after that. So nobody really talks about the Philly series anymore. Also that Philly team was absolutely STACKED. Pronger, Richards, Carter, Giroux, Briere, Timmonen was really good too, I think they also had Brayden Coburn that year, was a solid squad.

But if you look at it individually, that has the be the hardest choke job in sports history lol. Blowing a 3-0 series lead + blowing a 3-0 game 7 lead.

If the Leafs get one more win, Florida Panthers will be a huge test in the 2nd round.
I think Tampa wins in 7, I voted TB in 7 at the start and am sticking with it. If Barkov misses next game, I don't think Florida has a chance. They don't have great depth at C and they lose their best all situations player.

Disagree on the bolded.
When a player takes an open shot through bodies and it happens to hit the opposition on the way to the net that’s not what we typically classify as an own goal. It’s just a shot through traffic.

Also, Tkachuk’s 1st goal was a very lucky bounce, with his centering pass going off Carlo and into the net.
Knies was passing cross crease and it went off a Sens D last night. Game 2 Tavares rebound, which didn't look like a shot attempts, goes off Ullmark, off Jensen and in. Then you have the "punch" goal in Game 1 where Mo's shot is going wide and it's directed in.

I don't expect these to happen nightly, do you?

These things happen, they don't typically happen with this frequency. Ottawa has 1 by my count and that seems a little more "normal" with how many pucks they're throwing at the net.

Maybe we score in another way without those, maybe we continue to generate more chances when we're even vs with the lead, but personally I'm not counting on these bounces

I thought Matthews. Then I thought Kniesy. I want it to be Benny's!
So did the team. The Bud's are building the legend of Benny!

5-2 shots in favour of the Bud's in the 3rd period. I don't even think the Lemaire/Brodeurs' Devils in their hey days were grinding out periods such as that. Hats off to the Leafs, that was quite a performance.
The defence was impressive, everybody was where they had to be, and let no Senators go where they wanted to be. OEL, McCabe, Benoit and Tanev were the best Leafs defenders on the night, they kept everyone to the outside and no one asked nicely. Carlo and Reilly both finessed their way into creating turnovers. Everybody got in front of pucks giving Stolarz a lot of help in keeping the SOG totals down.

The bottom 6 doesn't look like anything the Leafs have iced in the previous 9 years. They don't look like they need to be sheltered against any line Ottawa puts out. They're agile, mobile and hostile as we used to say. They're not taking any prisoners on the forecheck and it looks like the Senators are looking over their shoulders and giving up pucks in their own zone pucks they would normally play.

The PK is more than adequate in being a part of a winning effort. The PP looks like the 76 Canadiens, the 81 Islanders or even 87 Oilers. They are flat out lethal, I'm really hoping they can keep it up through most of the playoffs.

In other good news the big boy looks like he might be back for real, Marner is the early Leafs pick for the Connie alongside of Stolarz and JT.

Just a thought, even though he has 4 points it doesn't look like Will has joined the party yet, look out when he does! In another thought we now have 4 goals in 3 games from our defence, incredible production for a D that struggled to score for the majority of the season.

GLG

Has anyone thought about what may happen if there's an empty net in game 4 and someone gets a free look at it?

Any chance leafs finish off the series with a clapper into the open cage? Think the Sens do it to throw leafs off their game for game 5?

I want whoever it is the wind up and then just tap it in, similar to how Alfredsson mocked the Sundin stick toss.

The Leafs have scored a few goals this series that have ended up going in despite not being the intention of the initial play.

The PP goal in game 4 was a pass that was literally an own goal. The PP goal in game 3 went off Ullmark, then Jensen, and then for an own goal.

And thats okay. Luck is a big part of this time of year, and you have to create your own luck in the playoffs. By parking the absolute dump truck that is Matthew Knies' badonk, youre creating bounces for yourself.

I find that this is the least stressed I've felt watching the Playoffs. Haven't had that feeling of pending dread that I've experienced over the past few seasons.
It's a nice change.
I agree. There is a maturity and calmness to this team. This team takes a lead, does a really good job protecting that lead (I read it described as "playing with their food"), and once scored upon with the only shot of the period, they turn it up again and get the job done. I really believe it stems from having a great goalie back there.

I've noticed in these last three games they are really blocking the lanes much better and collapsing well. Seems like a big team buy-in to blocking shots no matter what. Nice to see finally. They'll need to rely on that kind of dedication the further they progress.
