I believe Matthews was on his ass, felt some pressure and "muffed" it like you say. JT also with great anticipation on play and caught it.

Yes. Just watched in slow motion, Matthews gets a little piece of his stick between Hedman’s hands just as he was shooting. Definitely took strength off the clear. Nice micro-play by Matthews.
