Interesting article from Justin Bourne on the new stats that the NHL is tracking.

Here's Leafs so far:

View attachment 758324

The article explains a bit about why these stats happen... like the system you play means you may not skate as much which could effect skating distance etc.

It’s crazy how much speed we lost throughout this window. We were sold on a “wave after wave of fast attack” idea, then lost every fast player except Nylander and compromised to become a jack of all trades master of none team.

Mike Johnson was going over the stats this morning.

Interesting that the top 3 Leafs for skating speed this year has been

Gregor
Minten
Tavares.

They then debated if this data was accurate
I didn't realize that with skating speed. Interesting. Gregor doesn't surprise me though.

It'll be a long while until you see how accurate it is and how it can be used in many different ways but I thought it was an interesting read.

Dallas reporter on TSN was raving about his play there last year, said he was fantastic and he stood up for his teammates. People need to relax with these new additions, let them find their place, it’s October.
Yup. Never get worked up about anything in October.

I thought we gained back some speed this year so far with certain players added ... but then you see speed bursts and top skating speed and we're below the 50th percentile.

I know some people won't like the comparison but because of their continuous motion of play compared to many sports it makes sense hockey and soccer are similar in some aspects.

I've always thought it's smarter to move the puck more then your feet so you conserve energy and use everyone on the ice. Easier said then done though.

In saying that you still have to be skating but it's more about a system and being in the right spot instead of just skating down the ice on a rush play over and over.

Sounds like some junk stats

What does average skating speed even mean? Is it a good thing? Does it mean you’re always chasing someone with the puck?

If you don’t have to skate your ass off could that mean you’re more often in position?

Interpreting these stats would be a nightmare
Yeah I think it'll be interesting what they do with these stats. Just thought it was a decent read.

sure would like Jarnkrok and Knies switched but seeing how badly Marner and Matthews keep getting hemmed in, maybe Jarnkrok isn't such a bad idea.

Let me get out my violin for you. Get out of here with that 80 nonsense. I haven't broken 90 since having all these damn kids.
 Kids made me better, I have way more patience, just enjoy being out. Older I get, better I play, broke par for the first time in at least 30 years a few weeks ago. It helps that we play the White tees now though.

This is what his 3rd ex team he's played already this year lol. Guy gets around.
So, like any pending free agent who was traded at the deadline and then signed with anew team, like:

Ryan O'Reilly
Dmitry Orlov
John Klingberg
Tyler Bertuzzi
Dmitry Kulikov
Vladimir Tarasenko

to name a few.

Any of those guys on their 7th team? Not that there's anything wrong with bouncing around. Got a soft spot for Mike Sillinger.

Probably a question for next week, but why is the Leaf game at home an 8pm start next Tue?

Oops. I misread your post. I thought you has said it was the third team he played for this year - meaning calendar year 2023. Oh well, I made an ass of myself and need to live with it.

Couple leafs were quite the journeymen as well Lee Stempniak, Dominic Moore, Luke Schenn, even Phil Kessel to an extent.

Lee Stempniak: St Louis, Toronto, Phoenix, Calgary, Pittsburgh, New York Rangers, Winnipeg, New Jersey, Boston, Carolina, Boston Again
Dominic Moore: New York Rangers, Pittsburgh, Minnesota, Toronto, Buffalo, Florida, Tampa, SJ, New York Rangers (Again), Boston, Toronto (Again)
Luke Schenn: Toronto, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Arizona, Anaheim, Vanvouver, Tampa, Vancouver (Again), Toronto (Again), Nashville
Phil Kessel: Boston, Toronto, Pittsburgh, Arizona, Vegas, TBD

You can't eat snacks with TSN or?

I don’t subscribe to TSN, it’s browser based, over priced for a handful of games per month and I’m taking a stand against having to sub multiple monthly subs to watch Leaf games.

And the bonus, is that I get to hate it even more when I don’t get to watch the game.

I just think something Ike 3 apps (CBC, sportsnet and TSN) and like $50 a month is just ridiculous.
