Confirmed with Link: Leafs sign Simon Benoit to 3 year extension -- 1.35M AAV

Edmundson is currently at $3.5mm.
Zadorov is currently at $3.75mm.

If you can replace Brodie with a $3.5mm player it would help.

Maybe Brodie's game is replaced, with some growing pains, with Niemela? 2024 Brodie has warts, which are unlikely to go away, Niemela would have warts that hopefully go away with experience.

But Benoit's growth perhaps will bridge the gap between 2024-Brodie and 2024-Niemela.
Isn’t Edmundson cap is 1.7mil? Don’t think he will get a new deal that will double his current salary.

Great contract, nice work by Tre. McMann contract was also excellent.

Besides Rielly our defense really lacks offense and puck movement. Timmins has those qualities but he's even less proven and trustworthy compared to Liljegren who has been mostly reliable this season.
Yes, I will concede this is an issue. My concern is that Lilly must know what his weaknesses are, shouldn't he have addressed them in the offseason?

His best time here was when he was paired with Gio when he first arrived. Lilly was confident and learning about positional play, which is so vital to a successful D Mans job.

Maybe hate is too strong a word. If he (and others) hate their opponent, they will beat their opponent. Reilly showed some hate and was suspended for it, it helped turn the team around. More of this is needed. The reality is that nice guys finish last in the playoffs.

This is the 3rd contract Treliving has given up at this number.

Benoit, Babby Mac and Reaves.

The cap is 87 million next season I'm guessing 1.35 million will be the new number teams will be able to bury in the minors.

Otherwise this is an oddly specific trend.

Great signing, tre values depth and I think it makes a difference when guys aren't just on one year deals and then don't ever feel like they belong. Dubas did well on the one year deals but guys never felt like they belonged.

Dubas was the worst GM. We would've been past first round, second even to fnalist if ti werent for him trying Ballerina hockey and being bent over on trades.

Tre is rewarding the hard work and our core guys are buying into it more and more.

Pesce started his Brodie trajectory this year....he won't be worth it. Huge pass

Zadorov just sucks at any term with price.....huge pass
Yup

If we're going to try and get a top pair defenseman through free agency the target should be Matt Roy. Checks every single box we could ask for

Isnt Matt Roy basically a bit worse TJ brodie when we first got him?

Would be a decent add for 2-3 years but afterwards dont think he will age well.

I loved Pesce's game, but your correct, he's already on the decline, pick up a younger guy who isn't on his lasts legs even if it costs more..........

God I hope so, I don't want flash, I want big, bad, and defensively reliable...........
True and I love finally having some snarl on every pair. Any team that goes deep in the playoffs has that element and we have never really had it.

BUT, I don't have the stats (or where to find it maybe someone knows) but it seems we've been in the bottom third in the league in offense from the D for a few years now at least. Other than Reilly, McCabe has 7 goals which is decent, but only 25 points in 65 games. We definitely could use some offense back there as well.
