Confirmed with Link: Leafs sign F Max Domi to extension (4 years, $3.75M AAV)

Marner doesnt have more primary assists per 60 mins than Matthews and Nylander.

5v5 Marner averages 1.09/60

5v5 Matthews averages 0.86/60
5v5 Nylander averages 0.52/60
Together: 1.38 primary assists/60

Matthews has 7 primary and 11 total assists on Knies goals

Marner has 6 primary assists and 7 total assists on Matthews goals.

Matthews has just 1 primary assists and 2 total assists for Marner.

19+16= 35 < Marner 36 primary assist

Matthews is producing more primary assists for linemate Knies than the best playmaker in the world Marner is producing for linemate Knies. Math doesn't seem to be adding up there.

Just making a point that Domi is being heavily criticized for his lack of scoring as a 3rd liner with 3rd line players...but he's scoring at pretty much the same 5v5 g/60 as 1st liner Marner...who some believe is having an incredible season.

I liked him overall last year and thought he performed well in the playoffs stepping up when Matthews went down, but this year has been really disappointing and reflective of his broader career to date which is being a misfit tweener who lacks consistency. I guess we'll see how he does in the playoffs if he's still around.

100% this. This guy is the epitome of Hot Hot Heat's Middle of Nowhere, consistently inconsistent.

i still like him this year. he's an excellent playmaker, plays with decent grit and creativity. Plus he's a hardcore passionate leaf. And he's not making a ton of money. I'll always like Domi. He's currently my favorite Leaf.

Uhh..Domi plays primarily with Mcmann and Robertson.

Tavares and Matthews are much better passers and goal creators than Mcmann and Robertson.
is playing with good players still an indication of a player's quality and performance as judged by an expert (coach) or did that stop after the last round robin game of the 4 nations?

You mean the coach who demoted Marner from the 1st to 3rd and 4th lines because the coaching staff thought lines were playing too perimeter?

The coach who said Marner is less skilled (in terms of physical abilities) then all his peers in the tournament?

The same coach who put Marner back with Mcdavid "on a hunch" and thought Marner "looked like he had his legs"... a hunch and thinking someone looks like they're skating well isn't exactly the reason you'd like a coach to say as the reason they put an 11 million dollar player on a line over other much less paid players.

Weird to celebrate that our 11 million dollar player was the only player making over 10 million who played on the 3rd and 4th lines and the only player demoted from the 1st and 2nd line.

Certainly some low expectations! Bet you want to pay him more than Mackinnon too!

Back to Max Domi - considering his linemates a 37 point pace, playing 3rd line mins with 3rd and 4th liners seems about right. Can't complain about his g/60 if we celebrate Marner having the same g/60.

I wouldn't mind keeping him because he played fairly well in the playoffs, but if he needed to be a cap casualty in a trade for a top 4 RD and we have someone capable of playing 3C in his place, then by all means trade him

If they trade him...Tie Domi vs Shanahan might finally happen

Do you really think anyone care with who or if they producing more on pp than 5v5?

Do you think anyone in this world care about draisaitl producing only 45% of his total pts in playoff last year at 5v5 or kucherov at 44 % on both tampa bay stanley cup?!?!
Whats your point? Since 2019 Marner has produced 48% of his measly postseason production 5v5.

So yes I think people should still care how unproductive and pathetic Marner had been in the playoffs.

Back to Domi now.

hahaha.
you know what's funny i never liked Tie when i was younger. was never a fan.

I get that. Most people aren't fans of themselves. They are just themselves and like is off the table, they love themselves too Tie.

Lol Jk

You ever see Domi trying to figure out what his assignment is in the defensive zone.

He clearly hasn't learned what structured defense means. I've seen the puck carrier pull him all the way to the blue line. You'd think the center chasing out to the point like that was bad enough.

Except McMann was already there.

The winger was doing his job like he's supposed to. That didn't stop Domi from trying to be the hero. Like a dog after a bone he blew past McMann and left Woll to fend for himself.

McMann and Woll were left looking at each other wondering wtf.

You could tell it was an awkward moment for them both. Like going for a kiss on the lips and they turn the cheek. By the time Domi realized what was going on it was too late.

They'd already turned the other cheek and gotten a free shot.

He’s a decent #6 forward wing on the cheap that is having a down year and playing an incorrect role as 3c. He’s a playmaker though and I don’t think he’s a good fit with Tavares. So for me he’s either Matthews set up guy strictly on the wing or he isn’t a fit on this team. 3c never made sense though and this failed experiment is on Treliving. We only need one of Domi or Marner imo if we want to build the 3rd line properly or they can do the smart thing and put Domi with Matthews and let Marner be an anchor on the 3rd line because when they stack the top 6 and leave Domi in that role on the 3rd line we are a weaker team imo.

Good insurance in case Marner walks. He can play a similar role beside Matthews.

He’s been much more noticeable and playing like a positive asset for sure recently, unfortunately he is super streaky and was an absolute ghost for majority of the season. But when he plays like this he’s well worth the cap hit and a solid, albeit flawed, middle 6er who can step up and play a top 6 role.

Still not sure what that 3rd line he is on is supposed to be?
I'm with you. Domi isn't a good defensive centre, but then again neither is Laughton. I don't know what either of these guys is supposed to be on the 3rd line. Laughton is certainly not the 3rd line centre we should have aquired, he isn't even good at winning faceoffs or the penalty kill. Granted, Domi has played better, but for the life of me I have no clue what Laughton adds to this team. Against a heavy Florida team, he was non-descript if not invisible. These are the teams we should be seeing something from him.

I feel like it's been forced into a scoring 3rd line. 1st line is going to be force fed the toughest matchups because we don't have a shutdown line. Tre tried to give Berube a shutdown 3C but it didn't work out obviously. 3rd line should probably never start off in our d-zone imo.
