Kid is living large… JT lives in an amazing house.

MK is going to stay on the Leafs right from the beginning.

I'm happy to say I was dead wrong about Knies. I didn't think his skillset would translate to immediate success in the NHL but dang the kid has vision, great hands and seems smart. I'm pumped to see him develop

So happy Dubas resisted the temptation to trade him at the deadline. Seems a given he'll be a top 6 winger for years to come.

Knies is really going to turn heads next year.. with a full season of training with Leafs staff available and then a (hopefully healthy) training camp.. with Bunting wanting his payday and kerfoot not likely to take a pay cut, I don't see how Knies starts in the AHL next year if those spots are up for grabs.. I think he takes it in training camp.

Whatever happens, he ***needs*** to draw in at some point during this playoff run. You can tell the guy's running on adrenaline right now and will do whatever he can to seize the moment - he might make mistakes (although we haven't seen him make many of them) but he already has better offensive tools and gamebreaking ability than basically anyone in our bottom 6.

Just out of curiousity, why did you think this?

It's hard to imagine anyone watched him at all the last two years and came to this conclusion.

I think Matthew Knies has a very high ceiling and I think that's how we should draft. I'm not a big fan of taking guys who are "safe" bets to be 3rd line players. As we know, those players are a dime a dozen and can be picked up every off season for $1-1.5M. Think about it, Kase, Bunting, Simmonds, Spezza, the list goes on. We don't need to be wasting picks on guys that max out at something like that. That's why I love the Knies pick.

Why does he need to draw in?

If he doesn't get in the lineup, that most likely means things have gone incredibly well for the Leafs.

He is also knieve ito playoff presser in a good way.
Also TB knows nothing about this player his tendacies.

SN NOW doesn't have the Lightning game for some reason, but here are Knies' highlights vs. the Panthers and Rangers:

The scouting reports suggested that he's a shoot-first power forward, but I see a big-body jack of all trades. Obviously strong along the boards. Clever passer who knows how to get the puck to the middle of the ice. More engaged than I expected defensively.

Very promising player.

Nick Robertson too?

I know it's a crazy notion but NCAA hockey is just a tad different than NHL. The list of NCAA guys that transition seamlessly into the NHL and become impact players is pretty short.

Again, glad I was wrong.

If you look at the list of guys who didn't make the transition, how many were 6'3" 220 with good wheels and and puck skills?

Felt pretty clear he played a pro game. I don't think many coaches or NCAA fans are too surprised he fits in at the NHL level.

Held out of the lineup in favour of ZAR tonight because we’re afraid he may make a mistake in a crucial time…

Just to watch ZAR hyperventilate on the bench with his eyes closed prior to puck drop (great camera shot lol) and then commit an early blind back pass turnover causing a goal against within the first two minutes.

Glad we sat the kid that actually has the ability to make a positive play out of nothing because he might do something the other slobs on the team are already doing regularly.
