Confirmed with Link: Leafs sign F Luke Haymes to ELC (2 years)

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

In the meantime, feel free to join our Discord Server
I think Jacob Quilian has Bozak potential
You think so ? That’s a pretty high bar for a fourth liner when people are on here saying minten likely tops out at 3c not saying your wrong cause I haven’t really watched him but that’s lofty praise bozak was our 1st line center he wasn’t really a fit there for a team trying to win anything but he was a smart player a decent 2c in his prime

I’ve been to a few Marlies games this year, Jacob was by far the most NHL ready pro, he’s got the size and skill set. Honestly I think he’s slightly better than Minten offensively tbh. That’s probably why they were comfortable enough to give up Minten in the Boston trade.

Bozak was our first line center by necessity but he was a 2C/3C.

Nice I never really saw quillan being better than minten or even with the potential to be but it would make sense why we traded him still would have like to have kept both we’d really be strong up the middle

I agree, Minten was my favourite prospect. Seemed very likeable. I just worried about the offensive production.

quillan’s production at NCAA was a little more in line with Bozak. But Bozak produced immediately at the NHL level. That remains to be seen by Quillan. If there’s one organization I trust to make it happen it’s the leafs. We have a good track record with both NCAA and Euro free wallets

So using age as a guide and AHL as a measure. How does this guy stack up to our prospects of similar age?

Most scouting agencies seem to think he's NHL quality. Obviously a lot of that will change depending on how he performs over the next year. He's better than Quillan from all accounts and he was also one of the better free agent prospects last year.

UFA's: that can walk without impact on team.

Hakanpaa
Pacioretty
Murray
Abruzzesse
Nylander
Steeves
Marttinen
Mermis

Murray stats look good, I can see him getting signed somewhere.
Mermis maybe with Leafs.
Steeves should move on for his own good.

Leafs have space to sign another couple.

+ Robertson

Guys still need to play in the Marlies. I'd keep Nylander and Steeves and push Steeves for more of a permanent spot with the Leafs.

I think Steeves is as good as gone. He’s going to follow the Michael Bunting path probably. Not saying he will be Michael, but he’ll get an opportunity somewhere as an NHLer

Steeves will want to move on. Careers aren't long, and he needs to get into the NHL, and we just aren't giving him that chance. For the current Marlies, he'll be a big loss.... Having said that Cowan can probably replace what he brings, if he isn't in the NHL.

Alex Nylander I see staying put. I think the writing is on the wall here, he isn't a NHL player. He isn't getting a chance elsewhere, so why not stay in Toronto... lives with his brother, so his expenses are low. I think Alex will be willing to stay. He's still the second leading scorer on the Marlies, and there is value in that.

Maybe he’ll work on his two way game he needs developing time if he has dreams of playing in the nhl

There’s so much contract flexibility to add FA’s.
Steeves (and Abruzzese) are Group6UFA’s.
Steeves has done plenty to earn a legit NHL chance so I wouldn’t be surprised to see him chase one elsewhere.
But I’d be happy fan of resigning him and giving him a legit crack at 3rd line minutes.
In fact, I’d be on board for resigning NickRob, signing Josh Leivo and Steeves and let the three of them fight it out for 3rd line wing duties (Steeves a LS RW naturally, Leivo RS can swing, NickRob the same).
I think that’s a nice cost effective rotation that’s got a good chance to bring surplus value on the third line. With enough offensive chops to maybe slide up a line.
Especially if the team keeps both Knies and Mitch at top dollars.
(Admittedly, I get a lil attached to Leaf developed signees/draftees, hehe).

I'm thinking Quillan would be a decent bet for 4C next year, Kampf has been scratched quite a bit, don't think Berube cares for him.

Maybe give Haymes a bit of time in the AHL just to get used to the pro game but in a perfect world, he's a 3C option but it's so rare to get that out of an NCAA free agent, Bozak was truly a great find.

He had like 3 weeks from when he took over the team before Marner's no trade kicked in. No way he could 3ngineer a major trade in that timeframe.
