Bert was the biggest joke signing in years. People hyped that guy up like he was some huge stud and "built for the playoffs" yet when I checked his playoff records he had 7 games, with Boston the year before when the blew a 3-0 lead to Florida with one of the biggest playoff chokes ever. His scoring was a joke he handled the puck like a grenade and it took Matthews and Domi bouncing pucks off him and giving him gimmees Happy Gilmore couldn't miss just to eek out 20g by the last few days of the season. Guy was an absolute plug and not worth 5mil

Agreed. Not many recent Maple Leafs players that I've liked less than Bertuzzi.

Back on the Hakanpaa topic, I like depth and size. So it can't really go wrong. If he's healthy for game 1, then the rest of this is just noise.

When does this very mean 6’7 defencemen make his punishing debut?

He’s going to charge up the ACC with this big hits.

He was pretty cruddy last night.

I want to give him the benefit of doubt though. It can't be easy coming back from an injury like that. But it's looking more and more like another Klingberg type situation.

What's with Treliving signing all Dallas' injury prone rejects on defense anyway.

Interesting. Seems inevitable that OEL & Timmins would overtake that 2nd pairing with the way those two have been playing.

That's how the pairings started off as but the TOI was more or less that

McCabe at 24 min
Rielly at 23 min
Tanev and OEL at 20 min
Timmins at 16 min
Hakanpaa at 15 min

Like Tanev?

He's been doing ok I guess.

I'm not blown away and this is probably the best we see out of him. He's only going downhill from here. The only thing left to answer there is when's the decline gonna start and how fast is it gonna be.

I'd really like to see Treliving make upgrading 1RHD a priority next year.

I thought he was solid enough. He wasn't great or anything but it was his first game he's played since March. We gotta cut him some slack.

He looked more mobile and sturdy than Benoit to start the season.

I'm rewatching the game right now with the focus on Hakanpaa and he looks like what we need. He's been pretty nasty in front so far halfway into the first.
Yeah one of the things that was very noticeable was how physical he was in front of the net/goalie. He was moving bodies out of the way with ease

Rielly with a big RHD meathead seems to work in the playoffs but not the regular season. I dunno why Berube threw him to the wolves in his first game back. Should have been McCabe-Timmins and OEL-Hakanpaa IMO.

How kind of you to give him the benefit of the doubt after 1 game
