Confirmed with Link: Leafs sign D Simon Benoit (1 year, $775k)

If Benoit keeps playing the way he's been playing in the playoffs, I would put him on the 2nd pairing with OEL and let Rielly be the 3rd pair guy with Carlo. Right now Rielly has been the weakest Dman in the lineup so far while Benoit has really stepped it up and has played very well for most the playoffs and looks like he easily deserves more icetime than Rielly unless you really need offense from the blueline.

I still hear too much talk about replacing this guy with another #6 in the trade/FA thread. No! He's a valuable member of our team who steps up in the playoffs. You're not going to find a better #6.

He played more than Tanev last night, over 20 minutes. We roll all 6 d man, he’s been incredible. Once he got away from playing with Timmins this year he looked better, and he’s just solid as f*** this playoffs. His minutes aren’t that of a 6, all situations, it’s great for a coach to trust his depth D like that and he’s risen to the challenge.

Will never, ever forget the losers who immediately wrote this guy off / berated him before he even played one game when Toronto acquired this guy from Anaheim. "Terrible 'defensive stats'", "8th D on the depth chart" , "Downgrade from Travis Dermott" (Yes really, they actually said that).

Best 6th dman in the NHL. I absolutely love that the fancy stats community hate him.
