the scariest thing is to look at our advanced stats in close games. we're 2nd last in the league in unblocked shot attempts in close games for instance. For a team with our talent, there's literally no excuse for that. The only worse team is Carlyle's Ducks

There are some worrying trends in our game that are biting us in the ass and this may take some solving

Have you seen him dismiss the media when lineup changes are suggested to him? I bet Dubas making a suggestion would be given just a tad more thought than when the media scrum suggested playing Marleau with Matthews and Nylander

I have a lot of qualms but my major one is seeing Komarov, Polak, Moore (who never, ever won the #4C role definitively over Fehr- in fact, quite the opposite based on what I saw), Hyman (on the 1st line), Martin (poor hockey player but this is one I can at least live with) getting major minutes every night when I feel we have better guys internally. Icing the best lineup, or at least trying to every night will win my sympathy points.

There's little leash for guys like Marner, Nylander (and sometimes, deservedly so)- so why not treat everyone else fairly as well?

Perhaps their results in the past have hurt their hunger for bringing up other players and giving them minutes.

Of course maybe these are the growing pains as the team learns how to balance offense and defense.

Start of the season it was offense now it is no offense.

If Babcock needs coaching advice from Dubas then why the hell is the highest paid coach in the league? I'd expect the best (supposedly) and best paid coach to be able fix certain issues himself and/or with his staff.

learning to play defense isn't going to yield results instantly. People complaining about sucking offence out of players need to understand that defense helps win championships. Against Philly I hated seeing jvr make no attempt to get his stick in the lane of the point shot that lead to the game tying goal. If he tried, it could've prevented the goal and ultimately the loss.

Jvr... the player whose entire leaf career, has involved coaches gifting him a scoring role, offensive starts and pp time... but never is given the difficult assignments because he plays with zero heart and little effort.

Yea I'm not mad that babs is trying to force our youth to win games with defense... if he doesn't, we could have a team full of jvr's in 7 years and not toews, Crosby and kopitars.

Look at what the players who carry puck do.

They carry it into the zone, go around back behind the net, skate some more towards the blueline, then pass it to the defenseman for the point shot, with Hyman or Komarov in front.

Geez, isn't that the same as dump and chase? Get the puck back to the point and shot, but you can have two guys in front, and not along the boards no where, after carrying the puck into the zone and around the net!

yes. The fortunate thing is we have arguably the most loaded franchise in terms of talent from top to bottom and some of the smartest minds in hockey at the helm.

Nylander is 4th On the team in points

He has 5 goals in 33 games. Nylander's on pace for about 12-13 goals which is terrible for a guy with his shot. Spin it any way you like but he's definitely underperforming. I'd expect Hyman to get 13 goals, not Nylander.
