He's on a 2 week long break and there was a game 4 hours down the road, there was no need for a motive to take that game in

Not to mention Staios is originally from the TO-Hamilton area. Could easily have been home seeing family during the break and, being a hard-working guy, decided to scout a game while he was there.

on another note, who would have guessed, of all of the NHL head coaches fired during this season, that DJS would be (one of?) the first, to find another coaching position, with a NHL team
Well, all the fired Head coaches are still getting paid their HC salary, so there likely isn't any rush to accept an assistant coaching role (and potentially prevent the possibility of a HC offer down the road given the team he's under contract with now could potentially block it).

If DJ wants to beat out guys like Berube, McLennan or Gallant he probably needs to have something more to show than a career .471 pt% on his resume. Being part of the group to turn around LAK's season could give him a feather in his hat, especially if they manage to motivate PLD.

Hummmm, Steve Staios, our rookie GM was ……. “on a list of 17 scouts that were taking in the Islanders vs Leafs game on Monday” …… as reported in PostMedia today.

Was he pre-scouting the Leafs in preparation the Senators next game, vs the Leafs?

Was he interested in players, on either team, that may be available at the deadline that could be the veteran type of player he claimed he was in the market for?

Was he there as part of his quest to find the next head coach?
Hockey guys are hockey guys - if they aren't watching or scouting a game they tend to break into a rash. ;-)

She doesn't watch sports and cheers for whatever teams I hate to troll me. Going to have to sneak in looks at the score on my phone while we do paint night or whatever she has planned.

Yeah kinda weird. He said was close to come back in the game against Detroit. But probably gonna miss the game Saturday
That is odd, but hard to say. I've hurt things in game that didn't stop me from finishing the game, even though they were an issue later on.

I think Donovan McNabb had one of his best games ever on a broken ankle then was out like 4-6 or something.

Sounds like you need a new main squeeze!

Reminds me of Bobby Baun, Leaf defencemen, who broke his leg and came back to play in that game.

Any word on Sanderson?
From the article linked above,

As for Sanderson, it’s not believed the lower-body injury he suffered in the first period of the club’s 4-3 win over the Detroit Red Wings last Wednesday was anything that’s going to keep him out for a lengthy amount of time, but there are no guarantees he’s going to face Toronto.

He left after getting bumped in the corner by Detroit captain Dylan Larkin and there was no update following the game. Sanderson attempted to return that night against the Wings, but the decision was made after consultation with the medical staff to not risk it.

We’re led to believe he returned to his home in Montana for the break, but has been continuing his rehab recovery there. The Senators medical staff has kept in touch with Sanderson throughout the break, but won’t get a first-hand look at him until Thursday.

Article content
Sanderson has been the club’s best and most consistent blueliner all season. The Senators will have veteran Travis Hamonic back from his lower-body injury after the break, so they shouldn’t have to recall anybody if Sanderson isn’t ready to go

unreal, they make them play a ton of games to catch up. Then another long break, so that they are now 3-4 games behind everyone again.

I guess! jam more away games at the end. The team is out of it, so no worries about an empty area.. And I am guessing viewership for Ottawa Sens in March/April is in the toilette anyway. Spring comes, and we are liked gaged animals that get freed.

While the schedule has been questionable at best, this current situation doesn't contribute to that.
All teams have a bye of 8 - 11 days, around and including the Allstar break.
With some teams the Allstar break is first (as with the Sens); with other teams the Allstar break is last.

Sens break is 9 days.

Another Dorion Downfall !"

All teams get a long break.
Details in #29, above.
Yeah, the Senators get a break right after getting the All-Star Break. LAK got one at the same time I think. The we have the start of this season where the schedule was not optimal.

dammit, i want to go to the pub to watch this but the gf wants a date night that day

Pub is perfectly fine for a date night no?

I recommend you look up Patrice O'Neal and listen to some of his tapes and/or watch some of his videos on relationship advice for some balance. Sounds like it might be too late to turn it around. Find someone who likes to do the things you like to do. Good luck.
