Leafs powerplay simply unacceptable given the amount of money on it

It's pretty funny that everybody is attacking the 1st unit, when our real issue this year is that our 2nd unit has scored a grand total of 1 PP goal the whole year (and even that was while Marner was out there).

Who would have thought that paying half the cap to a few guy wouldn’t allow for good depth?

They wanted all the money and now they have to do all the producing.

The Leafs need to be more reactionary to how the opponent defends them. If they line up four guys across blue line I want a little wedge shot flopped in the corner and Knies on the ice. Let him get the puck ( he's good with the puck, sees the ice well) hopefully that is effective. When that happens do the drop pass and entering the zone with momentum. We're too locked in on the drop pass, defenders lined up to stop it and all that dead ice behind them. Adjust to how you're defended.

PP has been garbage since mid-way through last year. It's not all on Savard.

Teams are putting lots of pressure on Leafs perimeter players and its working because they're not moving the puck efficiently.

Lack of true PP QB really hurts. Marner is better than Rielly but not best suited for the role.

Also they stink at recovering pucks off rebounds (Knies helps with this but they don't like 5 forward PP)

Rielly is also surprisingly weak at keeping pucks in at the blueline despite his above average skating, as he reads the play wrong often.

Mark savard .in over his head

They didnt get all the money. They got some of the money, and are now doing more than their share of the producing. We have enough cap space to have good enough depth to pace for more than 2 PP goals from our 2nd unit over a season. Heck, five league minimum players should get more than that just based off the inherent advantage of an extra skater.

Savard is not the answer, the PP is lost and needs a massive overhaul...a fresh voice. Sadly Tre will not fire Savard this soon after identifying him as the solution.

You either fire Savard and bring someone else in, or you go out and pick up a PP specialist Dman with a bomb from the point. I guarantee you this, we will go out first round again if they don't fix the problem.

It has always been and continues to be coaching.

The players can score goals -.they need a system which allows them to do som

If the coaches have to bruise some player egos to shake things up,.then so be it

Brutal. Rielly is dreadful on it, but he is not the sole problem. Was a lot better under Boucher. Whatever we are doing it is not working.
Mathews was scoring last year but when teams started to tighten up our pp% went down and in the playoffs they sucked.

There is no urgency in the PP they allow teams to much time to recover.

the problem with the Leafs PP has always been what it was in the past... its too lazy and predictable.

- Only threatening shots on the PP are Matthews and Willy. You get them covered and you kill the PP.
- Leafs also have no point shot

In the recent past some of the good PPs.

- Oilers: McDavid, Drai, Hyman (net front), RNH, Bouchard (PointShot)
- Bolts: Kucherov, Point, (net front) 3rd fwd, 4th fwd (stamkos before), Hedman (PointShot)
- Avs: Mack, Rantanen, (net front) 3rd fwd, 4th fwd, Makar (PointShot)

special teams also kicks Leafs' ass in the playoffs. They suck on PP and PK often. I don't even think it is mental anymore. It is personnel and them being too predictable on PP and not having threatening shots other than Matthews and Nylander.

It is time to split the foursome and especially 34-16

Do you guys forget that the only series WIN we have is when Keefe finally decided to split 34-16? And then for whatever reason in the 2nd round against Flordia he went back to 34-16 and got embarrassed.

It starting to get really frustrating every f***ing year same shit

I don't know how many posts we have made about shots from the point, Rielly etc. It just never changes so I imagine Berube is also a neutered coach.

He can't change shit. The team will fail in the POs again and maybe the booing of the fans and loss of Marner to FA will prompt change. Maybe. They love selling merchandise here, so much the big boss projects it saying we aren't here to just sell jerseys

If Matthews can still shoot why don’t they put him in position for his one timer.
Same with Nylander on the other side.
Knies net front, bigger body than Tavares and good shot tipper and Tavares isn’t winning pp faceoffs anyway.
OEL at the point because ha actually shoots the puck
Marner right point.
??

This is pretty good.

I'd also STOP THE DROP PASS PLEASE.

They have Matthews and Nylander in position for a one timer, but when they pass it to them it’s either too soft or off target and they have to catch it and start over.

It doesn't matter. I think losing first round maybe the only solution. We told management not to run it back again. They did. Now they all get fired just like Dubas.

We have had the same players on the PP for 6 years.
Not one of our players can one time the puck and our defense. or MO has a muffin.

Was really hoping that we could have signed Montour but he didn't want to play here.

Try to sign Chychrun this summer and trade MO

We need to do some bold moves this summer

Why not 5 other players...can't be worse.
