Engvall
Simmonds
2023 3rd.

To
Toronto
Puljujarvi

Engvall and Puljujarvi are both very good defensively, have similar production offensively, one is ufa next season and the other Rfa. Simmonds balances the cap and adds toughness on the 4th line. The leafs add the 3rd in 23 because Puljujarvi is an Rfa past this season and has a bit more potential then Engvall.

No interest in Poopyjarvi. Would rather just hold onto the 3rd and Simmonds will be far more valuable come playoff time

No thanks to Engvall, Simmonds won't play much even though id love his leadership, would rather look elsewhere for an answer.

I think what every Oiler fan hopes for out of JP is what we can see he can be… not sure he ever gets there with the Oilers, there’s something not connecting. Is it his intelligence, coaching, teammates, general environment, his confidence… don’t know.

Personally I think he still struggles with the language, has a lower hockey IQ and is scared shitless of pissing off McDavid and Draisaitl. His confidence is the lowest it’s been since his return to North America.

Is he ever going to be what you hope for out of a 4OA? No.

If someone could teach him to be more aggressive physically and work with him on his confidence, I think he’s a very effective low-end 2RW to high-end 3RW tweener. This guy could be an absolute beast physically. He is not going to intimidate anyone but he could be the King of Chaos. He is by far the most physically gifted Oiler - very big, very strong, very athletic. He is an amazing skater. Great forechecker.

All that being said, it’s time to move on from him.

I don’t think TO is the right environment for him to succeed. The OP is about what his value is though… but I would have zero interest in Simmonds.

Jeff Goldblum looks at this trade and says that is one big pile of s***.

I guess I would rather have Engvall and a 3rd over poo poo platter.

Why would Edmonton want Simmonds?

Let’s say engvall and puljujarvi are similar players, Simmonds adds nothing. He can’t play every game, and even in the games he does play, it’s best for him to play < 9 minutes. Edmonton should be targeting guys who can play a bit tough, but can also keep up in the hockey aspect

As for engvall for puljujarvi, playing in Toronto won’t help puljujarvi if he struggles under pressure. Matthews isn’t driving play like last year and if puljujarvi is struggling with McDrai, I don’t see how he’d work here.

Engvall could be an ok piece on Edmonton’s fourth line, but they should look to get without giving up a forward, as it would just be shuffling chairs.

No point in this for Edmonton. We lack right shots generally and right wings specifically. Simmonds isn't an NHLer anymore and Engvall is pretty similar to guys we have already like Foegele.

I just don't see why we do it. Despite how frustrating he is, I still think JP is the best player in the trade, and he certainly has the most upside. I'm indifferent on the players Toronto is offering. I just don't see the point. Pulujarvi's game has looked a bit better the last few games, so I'd probably just rather hang on to him and see if he continues to show some more as we move forward. I think the value is fine, I just don't see what the point is for Edmonton, unless they need a 3rd round pick to flip for some reason.
