I know you are afraid to open this because you think that this is about Dobson and you NYI fan you would be wrong.

I don't do a lot of proposals but these 2 come about because Friedman wrote in his 32 thoughts blog for Sportsnet that Toronto was in on Marchment and was dissapointed when they did not get him.

He speculated that they could move a D man for a forward.

And so here we are.

Proposal #1

To Toronto JG Pageau

To NYI OEL.

Add whatever pieces you need to make up the difference but regardless of if Tavares is back or not (and I still think he will) the Leafs need a center, I like Domi but he's a winger he's not the ideal 3C.

Proposal #2

To Toronto Anthony Duclair

To NYI OEL.

Again add whatever pieces you need to make up the difference.

I think this one is more likely because both players have the same term, same cap hit, around the same age, I think this one is a solid basis for a trade.

I prefer the first trade because Pageau is a center.

But I think the 2nd proposal would be more likely.

And it would be OEL too, because we already know Rielly is NOT waiving and their right side is finally solid.

OEL is a good / reasonable player for Toronto based on his play and his contract. Not sure why Toronto would trade him for a 3C on a one year contract, or a question mark in Duclair who might underperform his multi year contract, like he did last year.

It would be WAY harder, but I'd prefer to move Morgan Rielly to Islanders, in a world where they are retooling / rebuilding and moving Dobson and Romanov for picks and prospects. Toronto would probably need to take Duclair, and then another player due to cap reasons. Maybe Anders Lee or Pageau. Then one team is adding a pick and/or a prospect probably if the trade value isn't even.

Of all Leafs D, Rielly should be moved first. Second would arguably be Benoit or OEL, yeah, but I don't think that's needed. Leafs problems are at forward and in the locker room / culture / mentality.

What would the Islanders want OEL for? Even if they don’t draft Schafer they have Romanov and Pelech. I’d imagine they could bolster their depth in free agency if that’s a route they’d want to go. Hard to tell with a new GM and a #1OA what they will do though
