if it's an injury that can heal then he should just rest. but maybe it's not as easy a fix.

He’s still zipping passes around the ice like nothing so it could be a slump or they’re getting cute and not running the PP through him. Last game they were playing him in the high slot and that’s usually the place where they’ve put the useless guy (Kadri and Tavares) on the PP the past few years. Matthews isn’t JVR and we don’t need him taking cross checks to the back like that either.

When Matthews can’t shoot, Tavares ends up handling the puck on the pp and he will turn it over.
That’s the main thing killing the pp.
I’d rather see Nylander replacing either of them.

Same but the way he's avoiding shooting and the team is purposely avoiding putting him in a shooting position. IDK what they're trying to accomplish with this.

My guess is Matthews may need surgery on the wrist, but it will have to wait until the offseason. Otherwise a nagging, but playable injury.
