Well goaltending was my biggest concern and the most was done to remedy that. So that's good. The goaltending was going to be uncertain because uncertainty of one level or another that's all that was on the market including Kuemper and Campbell. It's debatable whether any of the free agent forwards signed so far will turn out to be lineup regulars this season. The available 750 to 1M forwards seem to be shrinking rapidly. They may need to play the kids.

With that mentality, Murray kindly asks you to shove two of them up your ass.

LOL. Sure maybe 5 years ago. However if you have been following along, I have not said one bad word about Murray the person or the goalie. My beef is that Dubas did not get Ottawa to retain enough and/or enough of a sweetener when Dorion clearly was desperate to trade him. Therein lies the difference. Dubas said it himself. Dorion said take it or walk and Dubus blinked and took it.

Interesting theory since they hit record regular season points.

maybe should have saved some energy for the playoffs, where they got defeated in the first round again.

Not jumping on the overpay bandwagon for free agent forwards is just fine by me. Plenty of names are still out there. The team that spends the most money doesn't always spend it on the smartest way.

The Wilds GM had some good quotes today along those lines

yea but leafs have spent little and in the dumbest ways.

This team got significantly worse on paper.

Can't imagine Matthews or Marner being happy with the moves being made. We're just wasting their years in Toronto.

Giving that horrendous contract to JT was the TSN turning point of this team IMO. Either that or the Kadri trade.

The JT signing was actually the TSN Turning Point of two franchises that went in opposite directions. The Islanders, who made multiple consecutive deep runs after being relieved of the burden that is Tavares. And the Leafs, who have failed to progress by even 1 game, and in one year did not even qualify for the playoffs!

We lost Boosh too, say what you want he was a top 6 D men the entire TB series the apologists claim we should have won. We lost some depth there, he wasn’t perfect but he beat out Holl, what does that say?

He was our worst player and we probably win if he doesn't play.

And now one team is old, bad, and in caphell.

The other is young and elite.

"relax guys it's only preseason"

Wait it's not even that.

Why are we panicking?

Nothing matters outside of game 7 which will happen when June 2023?

That's all I care for next year. The leafs will make the playoffs, very certain that'll it will go to game 7. Can this team find a way to beat their demons and put down a rival

That's what I want to know next year. I have no issues with our moved becuase they don't matter.

Upside/downside will be put on hold until the outcome of round 1.

We are not missing the playoffs and like 95% sure we won't be a wildcard team.

Let's hope these guys are the right mix and our goaltending is clutch enough to slay our demons and then go onto have a 2011 VAN run with a better ending

it's a foregone conclusion that they'll lose that game 7. none of this matters. even the playoffs at this point.

Samsonov was a great start to Free agency and then we got 2 mediocre 4th liners who don't bring anything we didn't have before to the table

After Engvall & Sandin signed assuming ~2.75 together, basically can sign two UFAs under 1m. Hope one is Aston-Reese.

Other than that only realistic guys to be moved are Kerfoot, Holl to free space. But pretty tough to upgrade without major assets. We’re pretty much stuck with what we’ve got.

He was so bad your boy Holl sat. What does that say about him?

I love too how Dubas is “ballsy“ now with goalies, we lost a .914 last year for a .902 head case and a .906 injury cap dump. I mean it might work out, but the spin of “ballsy” is quite something. “Desperate”, “in a bad bind”, “scrambling”, more like it.

Back to word salad….

can't blame Dubas for JT, he took less to come home and EVERY leafs fan wanted him...

he is on the hook for everything else tho... these goalie moves will most likely be his undoing. unless Murray is in the running for comeback player of the year, this isn't going to end well for everyone.

most likely Dubas is out before Chrsitmas if the goaltending turns out to be like the Jays bullpen...

It’ll be interesting to see how the Leafs‘ lines will compare with rest of the Atlantic. Their top line is the best or at least tied for the best, 2nd is OK but certainly not great and 3,4 could be lottery team level.

We do have arguably the top line in the game. Really need Robertson to make the jump for depth.

There were lots of goalie options at the same price point. He certainly didn't choose the safest options.

LOL at all the people actually thinking Ottawa & Detroit are threats to us this year. Absolutely no chance

They all thought the Habs were better than us at this point last year and were crying about losing Hyman and Bogosian

Go easy on them.

I’ve come to terms with the goaltending. Still think the Murray trade could’ve been better but our goaltending this season can’t be any worse than last (famous last words). I like the signing of Aube-Kubel, think he’ll go nicely on the fourth line. Gaudette and Malgin are non-factors as far as I’m concerned.

Still hoping we can upgrade or at least get different types of players than Kerfoot and Holl. We do that and re-sign Engvall and Sandin for reasonable deals and I’ll consider this off-season to be a mild success.

Still moves to be made but we are not better today than we were yesterday.

Sure, but looking at what some of those guys got as contracts, I think we made the right move letting them walk.

I do however, question what we brought in to replace them. Not really my ideal selection of bargain players.

Still plenty of time to go before the season though.

Losing Spezza, Mikheyev and Kase reduced the team by 46 goals and 86 points from their bottom 6 forwards last year and Leafs are always looking for more offense from the bottom 6.

Looks like the Leafs still have a lot of work to do to address that with only Aubé-Kubel, Gaudette and the return of Denis Malgin the current adds and the last 2 might be depth/Marlies.

The still need to re-sign Engvall and on D Sandin so the cap space is limited.

Seems more like a trade or 2 are coming to build up the roster and even replacing the lost player at par.

A very wise man I knew used to insist that a well run team should always PLAY THE KIDS.

I don't mind 5x5 for Soup but Leafs clearly did. Said I'd rather have Paul at 7x3.15 than Mik for similar money when Paul signed. No way do I give Lub that deal. Will be interesting to see what Engvall wants after seeing the deals handed out today.
