And yet somehow we can afford a 4C that makes more than anyone in Florida’s bottom-6 last year. No problems affording a 3.5mil 3C with 3 goals that doesn’t know where the D zone is. Florida had Montour Bennet and Verhaeghe less than a mil more a piece but I guess Domi’s just as good as them.

Yes no shit the top salaries should take less but unless you have a time machine, not giving replaceable nobodies top dollar + trade protection would seem to be an important step.
You’re right it’s too late for any of that but comparing most teams to Florida isn’t going to look good. They’re opposite ends of the spectrum with no state tax, great weather and no pressure. Tampa, Dallas, Vegas too. The Leafs made their bed and nothing will change until the core does.

Rielly because he’s older, he sucks, likely to get worse and it would be cheaper. It could happen because they’d likely have to eat part of his salary if he agreed to waive his NMC. I haven’t checked Nylander but buying out Rielly really helps them in the shorter term. According to Cap Wages they save about $20M off the cap in the next five years but it costs them about $10M on the cap in the following five years. Mind you by then the cap will be $110M so it’s definitely worth considering.
Those 2 are probably your 2 best playoff performers of the group. At least the ones stats don’t change much. Reilly seems to play better in the playoffs.

None of their bottom 6 would have made more elsewhere, it was a bunch of no-names they scouted and Lundell on an ELC. I’m not talking about getting Reinhart, Bennet, Verhaghe for comparatively cheap, I’m talking about the 6 700k-1.1mil plugs they had. We take their sloppy seconds they didn’t care about losing for league min and everyone’s screaming about how Lorentz is the best fourth liner we’ve had in a while. Zito could hang out in a Denny’s parking lot for an hour and come home with 4 new Lorentzs at league min.

Last year he was awful in the playoffs and he’s not paid to just show up in the playoffs. He’s brutal this year. Check out their record when he’s not in the lineup. They play .800 hockey.

Ok but their bottom 6 was both better and cheaper than ours, we could swap bottom 6s and had millions to spend on D. How are we unable to afford depth because of the 11mil?

We can all critique a little cap inefficiency here, a bottom pairing guy there, should the middle 6 be faster or higher scoring or big and tough to play against. Do you want a water bug on D or a big bruiser, yada yada.

But when the team hits the skids it’s an Auston Matthews problem first. It’s a Mitch Marner problem and a William Nylander problem second, tied. These guys are the source of our success and all bullshit. Then it’s a John Tavares problem third and a Morgan Rielly problem fourth. And throw in goaltending as the wild card, whether you get saviour level goaltending or Mickey Mouse stuff we’ve seen lately.

McCabe absence is so disastrous. Leafs should’ve let Liljegren walk and spurned OEL and Hakanpaa. Should’ve focused solely on Roy or Pesce along with Tanev. OEL isn’t good enough and Hakanpaa doesn’t exist. Who cares about the picks we got for Liljegren? They won’t equate to a top four defenseman in a trade or if they’re actually used.

but if it is a compliance buyout then no cap penalties ;)

I was just poking some fun at how shit both have been but they are seriously worrying. We are first round fodder with them like this, at least with them playing good we get 7 games

So how many coaches are we gonna keep doubting until the finger starts getting pointed at the players.
I have seen trash in the regular season that just snuck in with good Tending win it. Give them there last chance, the are are all being paid with MM JT contracts ending.

They need to lose some more yet. Be a good punch in the kisser to the entitles prissy boys and see how they respond. Including Shanny and Tre. Maybe this will spur trades of guys like Holmberg Kampf Reaves etc.

nylander goes from 70 to 65

they don't get worse because he's an asswipe in the regular season compared to the other two

we said this in 19-20

"it'll be good for them to fight their way in and play meaningful hockey late into the season" we almost missed the playoffs and were shitter in the bubble

this team is just trash. It's built on trash, that's holding up more trash with trash rained on it.

Those players don’t want to play in Toronto. It’s the same with the Jays and the Raptors. The Leafs can only sign Toronto boys who are older or other teams don’t want. They’re also on a lot of players No Trade lists. They need to blow it up if they can and draft and develop good, cheap players. They made a mistake thinking the NHL was a shinny league and this heartless core would lead them to the promise land. It ain’t happening Shanny.

Ok but I’m serious. It’s a regular buyout and they should consider it,
