Absolute horrible efforts from Rielly and Laughton .. it looked like they were on da other team .. common gents .. pathetic in da worst way possible .. Rielly gave away da puck 11 freakin times which directly led to 2 goals against .. take da hit dude and man up for f*ck sakes .. eat da puck if you don't have a play .. and Laughton common you lost 5 puck battles and you made a horrific decision in a tie game late when you turned away from Mack to give him a 1 on 1 with stolly .. absolute garbage hockey and absolutely not worth a 1st rounder .. in fact he might have to be taken out of lineup entirely .. BRUTAL BRUTAL BRUTAL

Ummm, it took Rantanen to be traded twice to sign a deal. He also didn't negotiate easily with the Aves !!!
 
Firstly, I have seen many td moves fault because they don't have time to gel. Tre knew, it's now or never for this core. After all these solid adds and only luck will win them 2 rounds? The Leafs aren't a final four when you have to prop up a bunch of overpaid nmcs. We blew up the future, can't trade the guys we need to and still need 2 or 3 pieces?!

Yep, exactly. Our Leafs needed a 2nd line centre, and a number 1 D-man. Treliving didn't get either of what was really required to put our Leafs over the top.

Both Carlo and Laughton came from teams that have not recent;y been of championship quality, so expecting them to make us MORE championship worthy is a fantasy IMHO.

They don't have to sign Tavares.

Or they call the shots and offer him $5mm * 3 with NMC year 1, 10 team year 2, nada year 3.

There is nothing wrong with keeping marner, and he is far from my favorite player.

AND players do waive, so could always approach Matthews and/or Nylander.

Maybe Nylander would like to play with Pastrnak in Boston?
Maybe Matthews would like to play for Boston, and Pastrnak in Toronto with Nylander?

First game together for both teams, while one was at home.

Avs were obviously highly favored to win that game.

2 empty net goals make the result look worse.

Funny thing is Leafs outshot them in the third and give up 1 even strength goal.

Avs 1 for 3 on the PP, Leafs 1 for 1.

Just a loss against a favorite.

I mean at this point Rielly is a big liability... Something needs to be done either he plays on the third pairing or play him as a LW then we can run:

McCabe - Carlo
OEL - Tanev
Benoit - Myers

It's also likely that the Avs didnt want to pay him what he wanted. So he was traded. Same with Carolina. Dallas gave him what he wanted. I can respect Marners NTC while also wanting him to not drag us through the wringers again during negotiations and also not being willing to accept a trade to recover value if he's not signing.
 
Watching the LeafsJelly highlights it’s a minor miracle we were up 4-2 getting outshot 22-11. Really disappointing that this is the 2nd time in 3 games that we blow a 2 goal lead. I understand Tanev is still out but my God figure it out.

I've said for months, a 2nd. line center, but only 22% of people were willing to pay the price.

You don't get a retained 2nd. line center for Grebenkin and a protected 1st.

Honestly Tanev can’t come back fast enough. It’s crazy how important he’s become to our team.
Side note, I love how Colorado plays. Speed in every action, from skating to passing to decision making to forecheck, just love that style. Everything I’d love our Leafs to be.
Thought the new guys were okay. Gotta give them some time to get used to the system and everyone new around them.

Tanev needs to fully heal before even considering a return. His LENGTHY injury history, especially during his time in Vancouver, tells me that he might not last if he returns too soon.

Also, he might not make it through an extended playoff run, so that's why a number 1 D-man should have been acquired instead of Carlo.

And yes, I know how hard it is to pry top players from other teams.

The team has played shit games like this with them all in net and you would blame the goalies instead of the team as a whole

This should have been a 3-1 or 4-2 Avs win if both goalies did their jobs. The Avs goalie let in 2 really weak goals and the leafs only had 19 total shots. Avs limited our offense very well to the point we needed the opposing goalie to give a .789 for us to be at a 4-2 lead at a point in the game (was 4 on like 11 during this point)

You will hardly ever deserve to win a game as a unit getting only 19 shots and giving as many as we did.

Very few if any goalies in the league would have won this game for the leafs

How oftten have I done that this year? I can count the number of losses I have blamed on goaltending tyhis year on one hand and I would have at least one finger left over.

I did it in the past because in the past the goaltending would piss away points consistently and of the group you listed Campbell was the worst at it.

Campbell was literally good for about a month, MAYBE 6 weeks, but bprobably closer to a month, and then he became dog shit, so much so that last time I checked he was in the AHL.


anyway like I said I can count the number od games I feel goaltending has blown this year on one hand and those are.

Hildeby VS Columbus twice

Woll VS Vegas specifically the back breaking 2nd goal.

and Last night

that's 4, 4 out of 63 games.

fact is like it not last night was the 4th one because when Stolarz is on none of the 2nd, 4th, or 5th goal goes in they simply don't I've seen him play enough to know that.

He was AWFUL last night it's that simple

I do agree with letting him come back once he's fully healed, but that applies to any player. However, saying something like 'Oh, his lengthy injury history' is kind of dumb, to be honest. I mean, given the way he plays, it's no surprise he gets injured. He's a warrior who will block a shot with his face if he has to. It's a shock he's not injured more often. It comes with the territory—obviously, a guy like that is going to get injured more frequently when he puts himself in situations that increase the risk of injury. That's common sense. That's his mentality and how he plays, and that's half the reason why he's so good and a beast. That's what we got him for. So yeah, obviously someone like that is going to get injured more often. If he played soft and didn't block shots, he probably would never get injured.
