Post-Game Talk: Leafs lose 5-4 in OT | Lead series 2-1

Can't even be mad at that. What a gutsy performance. Always felt like it was going to be a weird one that ended it.

We all would have taken 2-1 series lead heading into game 4. Still really like where the Leafs are at here.

It's probably time we all stopped expecting Matthews to make a huge impact here though. He just doesnt have it in him - whether its injury, confidence, or both, this feels like Matthews' peak, and expecting him to elevate is just unreasonable

at some point you have to point the finger at Matthews for being the guy who is not clutch. 4 nations best on best he was invisible. Great he is playing a 200 foot game and great in his D zone but for $14 mil he needs to take over games

There hasn't been a playoff series where you said even if they lost the series that Matthews was the best player. You can say that about McDavid.
he was quite literally the best player in the 2023 tampa series...

Need to get the next one.

Could had gone both ways. Think the early lead got the boys too comfortable.
There are no clichés that went wrong. Toronto played their best, Florida too and they won in OT.

Stolie is a leader on the ice and Woll can't play the puck and all that is unfortunate but Cats sent him to the hospital. Woll was fine and playing like Binner in OT until the puck bounced.

Leafs are underdogs here but up 2-1. Move on to the next one and keep giving them hell.

Was it Lundell that hit Marner into the boards? Its too late now to win that game but I'd like the guys number nevertheless.

The ability to swap out an entire fourth line came in handy tonight:

Jesper Boqvist, Nico Sturm and Mackie Samoskevich
for
Tomas Nosek, A.J. Greer and Jonah Gadjovich

Something Brad needs to think about in the offseason.

JT had 2 goals. Just short of the hat trick... could used that 3rd one...

But Hey!!! At least Morgan got his hat trick (1+2 own)..

F me

It would be best to just let him walk in 3 years and let a team endure misery by overpaying him

So I get Toronto is up 2-1 in the second rd, and it’s not chicken little the sky is falling but are we really winning a cup with current Matthew’s, Morgan Reilly and Woll….im thinking no

I said to a lot of people pre playoffs that I felt the difference this year is Stolarz. Can’t remember a goalie this solid since Balfour. Even if he comes back who knows if he can regain his form in time. Ugh

With absolutely no inside knowledge all I can tell you is I severely pulled my forearm right above the inside of my elbow over a year ago and it still isn’t right. It would feel fine for a week then I would twist it a certain way and I couldn’t even hold a broom for days. My bottom 2 fingers would just releass It hurt to hold a coffe cup.

My guess is it is going to be something like that. It’s fine. Then he pushes it and it flares up and he can’t use it.

It’s the only reason he can skate. Take draws, stick handle but had no torque on his shot.
I wouldn’t be surprised if he has two injuries, one that affects his shot and one the affects his skating

What are bottom fingers?

He literally had 2 assists.

I agree he isn’t his standard. But he has 2 goals and 10pts I think in 9 games.

He definitely needs to be better

The guy has to produce better, not play better.

It is interesting that he's been lined up against:

panthers-barkov-reinhart-among-finalists-for-selke-trophy/

And has 3 points in 3 games while being a plus player, AND 2 of the goals scored against him while on the ice were absolute muffins that Woll should have stopped, and the other was the Rielly goal (first one) tonight.

Like I've said, he is so far down the list of issues on this team.

Agree with a lot of your post. But Matthews has another level in him still. He is most certainly injured and fully expecting an announcement of off-season surgery once the playoffs are done.

Coming from someone who has hated on Marner for the last two years, he has impressed me this playoffs. And if Marner can elevate his game as he has, Matthews can too.

McJesus 131 pts in 82 playoff games
Matthews 58 pts in 64 games
There is a reason they call him McJesus He is simply head and shoulders above everyone. Not just 34. But it would have been great for 34 to have a moment tonight.

Remind me - what Division has had teams in the Stanley Cup Final round 7 out of the last 6 seasons?
Who do the Leafs play just about every single playoff series against?

It's almost as if comparing the performance of players who never face the same competition is flawed or something.

Ring and pinky fingers. I have had for months a “tennis elbow” type injury that I can do everything with. Lift weights. Bench, deadlift chins etc. Move things. Type etc.

But if I try to rotate my wrist with any force. Like swing a golf club or turn my wrist the wrong way even with a slight weight. Like sweep with one hand or twist a jar. My whole wrist feels like it loses strength and my ring and pinky fingers open up and it hurts for days.

Tennis elbow is fairly easy to treat and you don’t have to leave your town, let alone go to Germany to get it under control enough to play hockey.

So are most back injuries. It can last for a year and is repetitive.

It’s the only thing that makes sense to me. If you have a bad back you can’t dig in on draws fight in the corner etc. he is completely fine except his shot.

Bad backs can be anything, with an unlimited combination of can-do's and can't-do's, and often a mystery to doctors. You don't have it figured out here.

His wrists have always been a problem. Maybe the alien torque has taken its toll.
