Post-Game Talk: Leafs lose 5-1

I'm ok with being cautious, with a goalie who is injury prone, and has already matched his career high in starts. Woll goes down right now, and we are in trouble. Woll starts last night, we aren't winning anyway, unless you think he might have scored a hat trick.
He could go down at any time.
It doesn't work that way, the results wouldn't be the same. You make it sound like the outcome was pre-determined.

Yes, he could go down at any time and the coaching staff thought he deserved a game off, based on what they know. I'm assuming they know more than us. A tired goalie is more likely to get injured, than a rested one.

We didn't score until midway through the third. It wouldn't have mattered who was in net, we wouldn't have won. It's one game, no big deal.

Of course it's no big deal but they threw away two points. You're going to have losses where you play terrible and the outcome is deserved, last night wasn't one of those nights. The better team didn't win.

Agreed.. the better team didn't win. We couldn't find a way to score. Who is in net is irrelevant if we can't score.

On pulling the goalie with 8 minutes left.

Wonder if the thinking was partly: we score now, it's worth riding the stars into the ground trying to steal a point or two. If we give one up instead, we can roll the lines and look to the next game.

The stars were already worked pretty hard up until that point and seemed to be the only weapons avaliable last night.

I get the idea, but 4v4 is already a higher scoring game state that works to our advantage, and I think the more open space on a 5v4 makes a goalie pull more dangerous than a 6v5. I would have preferred seeing if we could get one on the 4v4, and then pull the goalie if we did.

Still have no idea why Woll didn’t start..if the Leafs end up giving up the Atlantic division lead to Florida, we’re going to look back at games like last night and think “Why didn’t Woll start” he had a decent stretch, there’s no back to back’s he’s healthy. There’s literally no reason Hildeby had to start
Managing workload to maintain health comes immediately to mind. But a secondary reason you start Hildeby (or AA) is if you're trying to assess if your goaltending depth is a strength from an asset management standpoint. A move is coming, and if we can add from moving out surplus, that's an ideal position to be in.

Is there any sense of Anthony Stolarz’s proximity to a return?

Berube
: He is on the ice moving around. Next week, he might get more active in the net and start moving and going up and down. We have to take it day-to-day. It is all about how he feels and where he is at with his movement.

He is on track, so he is doing well.

----------------------

My guess is he returns Feb 4th or 6th. That's 3-4 games from now. We'll be fine. Noting, we could call up Murray, and as long as he doesn't dress for 10 games, or longer than 30 days, he won't require waivers... forgot about that rule.

Sure is lots of hand-wringing for a team (Double checks standings) that is in 4th overall in the entire NHL.

Team will continue to be a true contender once the goaltending situation is back to normal with a formidable 1/2 combo in Stolarz and Woll.

Just need to keep pace until four nations and then hopefully JT, Patches, Stolarz and others (Jarnkrok anyone?) will be good to go by then. Woll can also reset with a good break.

Hildeby isn’t close

Didn’t like Bérubé tonight. Stupid line changes on the PP.

We dominated and got goalied. Columbus didn’t produce any sustained pressure. They actually suck.
Our Leafs will leave it up to other NHL teams to prove they suck.

They'll suck until they meet our Leafs in the playoffs. Then watch !!!

Shit, kinda like Nylander last year when he was on a contract year, but double the amount of goals.

And yeah, I forgot that many of you don’t really care how your players behave in the playoffs

I will care once the playoffs start. But as of today, he has produced more points than all but 3 players in the the entire NHL. IMO that is meeting his contract "obligations"

It's almost like we lost a game, and the angry people are out with their pitchforks again. So predictable.

Good move. I believe he has allowed 3 goals in the past 4 games. Leads the AHL in GAA (1.85) and SV% (.934).

Hildeby is not good enough for a top 5 team in the league. Leafs played well enough to win. Allowing that first goal giving life to a dominated team was huge. Columbus could play that sit back and wait approach. Would have helped if we scored a few in the first.

Hildeby was trash but the coverage in front was equally so. Not sure Murray will fare any better. Goaltending has been shaky since Stolarz went down. Went from a top 5 team defensively to middle of the league. I thought getting another C was at the top of the to do list but after watching Rielly, Myers and Timmins, it's clear that we need better defensive minded defenceman more. Rielly's contract is as ugly as it gets.

I'm not seeing much anger. Perhaps I have those posters on my favourite, ignore list.

Shuffling the deck chairs on the Titanic until Stolarz returns. Hopefully Woll remains healthy.

He is Back!

I really like Reilly.
Very very good skater
A wonderful person and team mate
A beautiful and great wife.
The absolutely best #2 dman in the NHL. Unfortunately he is expected to be #1
He is a very good skater but what else does he do? Viktor Stalberg was a very good skater. For 7.5 you need to be doing something else.

Even Woll plays hot and cold. Don't know which version of him you are getting night in and night out
