Yeah he’s done enough to help the team get out to a 3-0 lead so hardly time to be getting hyper critical. But there’s another level he needs to get to, injury or not.
Fully agree!

I will say though, and let's be serious here, we are playing what is probably the weakest team in these playoffs and he is hardly putting a stamp on this series.

I shouldn't be looking ahead, but I am human, so if there is a round two, and this is his contribution, it'll be a short one, and not in our favour!

Can still make a positive offensive impact on Tuesday. We might need it.

Me neither (famous last words) but a strong defense needs to be a sounding board for counter attack and opportunistic offense. I just feel like they’re a little short circuited. Sliders are too conservative.
Hopefully the extra day does them well to recalibrate and Berube can pull a coaching master class at home m

Bottom line and the silver lining: Toronto is leaving Ottawa with a win to maintain home advantage.

Onwards and upwards!
Great comment. It's the playoffs, and we just got a split on the road!! Coming home up 3-1 with an opportunity to close it out.

If anyone offered the team this before the season started they would take it.

Perfect positive thought to close the book on this game for me.

Im not convinced its even fair to expect him to be able to put in "signature" performances - only is his shot not there, but he has almost none of the power/explosiveness in his skating
Yeah his turns were cringe to watch tonight. He is usually much quicker than that

If Matthews can’t step up, this team will go no where. He was awesome defensively but he’s no where to be found offensively and he can’t hit the net for shit anymore. He had a 2 on 1 with Marner and fired it wide, not even on net. It’s frustrating, this guy is supposed to be a dominant force, but in the big moments he doesn’t show up.

Anyways that’s my rant. Let’s close out at home.
I wish I could "like" this post 10 times.

if they lose this....I need to get into Badminton or something
WE my friend

Leafs don’t deserve a fan base if they blow this

We should be forced to relocate to some bumf*** nowhere town in Idaho.

Willy and Matthews starting to assert themselves as top players hasn’t happened yet. The Pinto checking line has fairly obviously jammed up MandM but Ottawa has not been allowed anything inside. How much have they been banging around the crease. If Sens want to keep the status quo great they have almost no chances and have to win another 3 in a row. If they want to go track meet also great the Leafs are at least equal if not superior in most aspects

Great. 13+ million dollar captain needs to do more than that.

I would guess over half those break ups were off faceoffs he lost.

We already know he is good defensively, and has been for years... it is NOT enough (we have years of video evidence). He has to do more.
marner was the weakest player on that line tonight and the least noticeable but were here talkin about an injured Matthews that’s still playing solid just not scoring ……. Yeah ok
