Why do NHL players need motivation?

We have Reaves as a cheerleader, why do we need more?

How about running better systems... this team is 10x what Ottawa is on paper and we are playing 50/50 hockey.
I don't mean motivate as in rah rah. More like I said, some little corrections that will mean more after a loss. Probably some extra encouragement for some of the good stuff even after a loss too.

Everyone in life needs motivation whether in their personal or professional lives. Sometimes we can't find it from within, no one is perfect.

It’s almost like we’re not this drastically improved team like many seem to believe. On the other hand we’re not really worse, but that’s mostly thanks to our goaltending.

this is a team that has haad 7 years of playoff experience now. They should have learned now about puck management and game management

3OT games out of 4 games played against a team that is a newbie to the playoff doesn't give me a lot of confidence

Goal 1 was a one time slapper on the PP.
Goal 2 was a breakaway
Goal 4 was screened by two players including Carlo, who's massive.
Knies had a slapped on the pp, didn’t go in
Holmberg had a break, didn’t go in
We had a 4 man screen for most the pp, didn’t go in

Stolarz cost us the game, it’s fine probably he will bounce back but he’s gotta own that lne

Everyone is gonna be on those Leafs fans with brooms but 21 years ago our fans did the same thing with zero issue. Because back then we had a core that could end a team when we had them on the ropes.

That year in 2001, Our leafs finished the sens with no mercy in their first opportunity to eliminate them in a shocking sweep. But in the very next series, we had a 3-2 series lead against the devils with the opportunity to advance to the ECF on home ice and we couldn’t finish them off. We ultimately lost the series in 7. In the modern history of the maple leafs, our leafs regardless of their core unfortunately struggled to seize the moment and use their killer instinct to put opposing teams away for good.

Matthews can't shoot. I think he needs surgery. Never seen a goalscorer so scared to shoot.
I think they’re freezing his wrist. He doesn’t have accuracy on his shot or that incredible touch with the puck.

I’m still processing us doing the standstill on the OT PP

Unfortunately, Stolarz couldn't bail them out this game... that's the issue with trying to play 50/50 hockey.
They were the better team tonight.

Stolarz was the reason they lost.

Which is fine. He gets a pass for all the times he has bailed them out but don't try to pretend it was 50/50 today

McMann has like 3 or 4 goals since 4 Nations? He has gone awol for months now.
When he is hot he looks like a big strong fella...

Then I watch Pacioretty and I realize that is what power and strength look like.

He isn't winning many puck battles, especially along the boards.

He did have some extra jump when got bumped up to the second line though. Hopefully that carries into Tuesday.

I’m frustrated with that line right now, but Berube has got to mix in an offensive zone start for them here and there. We saw what happened when they got one. Set play and goal. Way too many defensive zone starts for the Matthews line and yes they are doing a great job not giving up goals but they are chasing the play offensively
They arent getting Dzone starts against the 80s Oilers.

They're up against Michael Amadio, and Brad Perrytwinkle or Dave Rugburnis.

They are allowed to get the puck up ice and actually put some pressure on that line.
