Post-Game Talk: Leafs Lose 4-3 in OT | Lead Series 3-1

The Leafs played nearly 4 periods, and had 8 minutes of PP time, and Scott Laughton ended with more ice time than Matthews.

Im not sure what's going on here, but it hasn't felt right with Matthews for some time now. Really needs to use these 2 days to figure it out
Matthews played 26 minutes, Laughton played 18

Honestly, just put in Kampf and be done with it. At least it takes Matthews off the top PK.
Matthews should be only used in pure offensive situations anyway. Imagine he gets injuries by blocking shots on the PK.
Just use him where he is at his best: PP, offensive zone starts/face-offs, 4 on 4 and 5 on 5 offensive situations

All the dicking around trolling the sens and their fanbase aside

FACTS
4 games played and 3 games have gone to OT. Could easily have been a tied series now like 2-2 or something

except for the 1st game, the other 3 games have been relatively close going to OT. Leafs have yet to show that they learned something from past experience for closing out series.

And lets be honest here. ottawa are newbies and quite frankly not that good and they are pushing the leafs to the limit. like WTF is this shit
Really not liking our first period games. We are always weathering the storm it seems
We need come out guns and blazing for a change. Too risk averse

We dont' come out with energy, with intent or purpose

It’s almost like we’re not this drastically improved team like many seem to believe. On the other hand we’re not really worse, but that’s mostly thanks to our goaltending.

Pushing them to the limit? Debatable. Leafs have been dictating the pace most of the series despite not being desperate for a win, presumably they will play with a little more hunger game 5.

Goal 1 is a clear one timer he had full view of

Goal 2 is a crappy five hole shot that turded through him

Goal 4 is a normal screened shot, he’s a 6’6 goalie who looked like Samsonov in net the entire gsme

He will probably bounce back, but he was horrendous today
Goal 1 was a one time slapper on the PP.
Goal 2 was a breakaway
Goal 4 was screened by two players including Carlo, who's massive.

Meh. I'm not happy... but one loss isn't the end of the world. The Leafs will definitely win the series. No team will be swept in round one. If told TOR would be up 3-1 after four games, many fans would gladly have taken that. OTT isn't good enough to win four in a row in the playoffs. They weren't that good tonight for a team fighting to stay alive.

It's just frustrating blowing another elimination game and an opportunity to embarrass a rival.

Matthews legit frustrates me with his lack of ability to come up clutch when he can be a hero. The guy scored 69 goals last year. How many chances did he have to win tonight's game? How many does he need?

I wasn't able to watch the OT. Did JT return?

Unfortunate result. Bad pp and bad goalie tonight. Hopefully they end things in 5.

I think they'll win but if there's a team that will blow a 3-0 game lead its the Leafs.
Wise words.
Yes, returned, but if it's a head thing, hopefully he's fine tomorrow.

Couldn't disagree more. Which goal is on him?

Save % game by game isn't a reliable metric.

Stutzle goal was savable for sure.

The OT goal was savable, just needed to see it, he lost the puck.

Overplayed the Perron goal, but that is fine, don't blame him, blame the 3 players going for a shot block.

Pinto was savable, but it's a breakaway, I don't expect him to save it, just thought it went through him.

I wonder, and please correct me if I'm wrong, but does Colorado actually try to pass the puck to Mack on the power plays?

Because the setup men on our power play avoid Matthews like the f***ing plague.

Especially Nylander.

He floats in an out of coverage to get open lanes and is waived off every single time.

It quite literally led to the short handed goal against.
It's because our guys on the PP stand still and expect lanes to open up when other teams with good consistent PPs are always moving and finding space. When our PP is on their hot streaks it's usually because they are moving a lot more and making quick passes.

down 2-0 in the first period

gave up a short handed goal

blew a 4-minute powerplay in OT

and all this in a series-clinching game... again.

Killer instinct? There's none, never has been.

If they don't win the next one this series is done. book it
