Now we have to waste two weeks with this stupid tournament. Washington's management team is currently sitting with its feet up loving the fact that not a single one of its players is wasting effort in these nonsense games.

Ngl it seems very similar to Babcocks last year in Toronto. He does not like this style of play. Matthews has and wants to play off the rush.

Just go watch Mathews away from Marner against Tampa series and then last year for the games he played against Bruins

Marner = Unacceptable
Matthews = Awful
Tavares = Stunk
Willy = Hung over
Rielly = tried to be engaged but was lost most of the game
Robertson = below replacement player
Myers and Benny should be on the bus back to AHL. At this point I'd give Topi a try.

Tanev, McCabe and Woll were the only ones who showed up

Matthews getting robbed by a mediocre goalie because he can't elevate a puck to save his life is the perfect microcosm of his career. Not sure what's receding faster, his talent or his hairline.

The pass was soft and little off for a one timer but he cradled it and flicked at the net. Before he released it we knew it wasn’t going in.

Disagree. When Mitch is at the top of his game he is in control, on both sides of the puck and in all three zones. He was awful tonight, no doubt and had none of those flashes you mentioned.

Last time we saw some flashes of that was when Matthews was out. And never in playoffs

You guys can’t use the Marner bullshit excuse for Matthews right now. They aren’t even playing together. Matthews isn’t engaged right now for whatever reason. That’s on him, not his linemates. At 13 million, he should be dominating right now. There shouldn’t even be a conversation about who’s on his right wing. Stop making excuses for the guy. Goalless in 6!

this was a scheduled loss when hughes become unavailable, than it became a guaranteed loss when demko left. This is how a loser team operates and that is what we are

adding laughton won't fix this, we need to add mcdavid to this current roster to have a chance

This was (one of) the most predictable losses of the year. Didn't even bother watching them play. Canucks and Sens are two teams that I simply don't bother tuning in against anymore.

Poor game all around. Sooo many turnovers inside both bluelines (felt like half of them were Matthews) and so much perimeter play.

Felt like 3/4s of the game was in the Leafs end.

Of course like the other half wasn’t marner but don’t mention him lol they all played like garbage not just Matthews

The good news this season is that Nylander at least isn’t mailing it in after getting paid. He’s the only one of the core forwards that looks like he trusts his game. The rest aren’t feeling it at all.
Like what I saw from Rielly offensively at times tonight I suppose.

Such an incredibly pointless tournament. Someone is going to get injured in this thing and it will torpedo a team's season. Who the hell cares who wins between Canada, US, Sweden and Finland. At least the Olympics or a Canada Cup has the best players from every country, unlike this pygmy tournament. I'm sure Russian players are crestfallen that they have to go to the Caymans for two weeks instead of playing in this....

This was a classic example of a game he can’t play in. We’ve seen it over and over again.

VAN defended very hard, no open spaces. If you wanted to get to the scoring areas you really had want it. We got our answer, and it's been the same answer we've always gotten.
