Holmberg was recalled. Bertuzzi is likely to play.

Minten to sit this one out. He will likely stick around for the road trip and then go back to the WHL after if I'm a betting man. We'll see.

I was called a dinosaur when I suggested Minten shouldn't be starting at C in the NHL especially with no vets on his wing helping him out.

keefe went with knies-minten two rookies on a line ruining development and confidence of both players

but what do I know.... LOL....

:sarcasm:

Lafferty would be nice to have. I want to see more of the Marlies too but gave away a good 4th liner for a 5th to keep up Minten which looks like a mistake
The whole bottom 6 is basically a shitshow. Treliving just went out and got a bunch of guys with no coherent vision.

Something like Gregor-Holmberg-Lafferty would have been a cheaper and better 4th line with a clear identity, but instead we have the worst 4th line in the league and pay a premium for them

After 4 games 11 of Leafs 14 goals have come from the core 4. Leafs Defense has scored Zero, and Leafs only have 2 X ES goals Jarnkrok & Gregor and 1 PP goal from Bertuzzi to date as depth scoring.

Leafs biggest issue has been offense from the backend (Leafs have been consistently bottom 5 in this area in teh league). that is why Tre got Klingberg. But quite frankly I see the system run by Keefe; D-men hardly take the slapper or wrister; the system is basically get the puck to the forwards asap and then man the blue line in the o-zone to keep the puck deep and again give the puck to the forwards. Its so easy to defend and keep Leafs forwards to the outside. Freakin' predictable system.

Kampf has been the worst forward so far next to Ryan Reaves. That fourth line has been putrid and by far the biggest issue... and they only play sparingly 5 on 5.

Replace Kampf and Reaves with cheaper, younger, faster players... and I'm all in with trying out Nylander at center longer term.
Kampf is exactly the type of guy you let walk and replace him with a younger cheaper player like Holmberg. I get if you value him on the PK but now Matthews is killing penalties and Holmberg is more than capable of doing well on the PK.

Instead they give Kampf $2.5m, horrible contract. People complain about Reaves contract meanwhile the worst contract is on the same line right beside Reaves

I disagree. It's the same coach that said Reaves had a great training camp.

We'll see how right or wrong I am with Holmberg getting into the lineup.
He didn’t have a good training camp? Strange parallel with Reaves. Holmberg did nothing at camp, not saying he won’t be effective now, but he lost the job, or more correctly he didn’t play with any urgency. Keefe also said Cowen out played him.

It'd be nice to see a 5-0 win where bertuzzi and Domi get a couple each. That's a perfect world.

It'd stop a lot of the conversation for a bit about terrible depth and goaltending.

Chances of that happening are pretty low though lol.
Wishful thinking.

Sanderson has as many goals as our whole D + Marner + our bottom 6.

Robertson 5 points in 2 games so far, just saying.
trade him.

I am going to go out on a limb and suggest neither their development or confidence is ruined.

Both have been just ok, and a little snakebit for a point but they didn't look awful.

A great experience for Minten to take back to Junior.

I wouldn’t be surprised if these teams are battling for a playoff spot.
I get that people are down after a couple of losses, but let's be serious. The Leafs won't be "battling" for a playoff spot. They will probably be 10 or 12 points clear of the 9th place team by US Thanksgiving.

Mittens should be sent down but Knives should be here to stay.

I thought he showed a lot of aggressiveness and speed. Didn't cash in on chances though. Minten was really good too but rushing him to play NHL games wasn't the smart move... and it's looking to be heading that way, weird?

Keefe can say a lot of things, I don't really care. I'm just voicing my opinion that I think Holmberg was just as good as Minten in camp. How is it a strange parallel with Reaves who literally did nothing? He's just saying stuff to the media. Not everything said there is the gospel. I'm sure you've disagreed with a lot of previous coaches and GMs about the choices and things they said, no?

I'll be honest, Willy Nylander should be the #3C at present.

Minten should be in the WHL, and Holmberg the Leafs 4th line C and David Kampf let walk away and his cap better invested in a defense core improvement upgrade.

This is what I'd run

Bertuzzi-Matthews-Jankrok
Domi-Nylander-Marner
Knies-Kampf-Tavares
Gregor-Holmberg-Reeves

you can put JT at 3C and Holmberg on RW and put Kampf on 4C if people still want JT to play center (dude is too slow to play C IMO)

You create offensive depth by using the pieces you have and asking opposition to pick who you want to defend against? Matthews or Nylander/Marner?

Hell I am also fine with...

Bertuzzi-Matthews-Jankrok
Domi-Tavares-Marner
Knies-Nylander-Holmberg
or
Knies-Kampf-Nylander

You need your high AAV players to make other players on the roster productive and lead their lines; bitching/whining to play together while take all of the cap and still not producing enough 5 on 5 especially in teh playoffs has to STOP!!!

If we're being honest here Tavares should be #3C and Willy the #2C.

5v5 Willy is way more impactful and at this point he's just plain way better than Tavares

Fair enough, I just found it interesting that Keefe made those comments yesterday. I do like Holmberg overall, he showed some good promise last year, although I found it hit a wall towards the end of his stint, which happens.

I don't think so, I was just commenting that he shouldn't be.

Eventually Minten will be sent down. I'm not against sending Knies to the Marlies either for 10-15 games

He still looks very raw to me

It all depends on the competition and how many points Detroit , Buffalo and Ottawa take from Atlantic.
They’ll be better in the shinny part of the season but they have the trip to Sweden which isn’t ideal.
