Speculation: Leafs hidden gems

I think MacWilliam will be good. 2nd pairing guy, along side Rielly. Gardiner and Dion on the 1st, with Finn and Percy on the 3rd is how I see things panning out hopefully.

Number 2 would be Brad Ross. I like to compare him to Shayne Corson, however less skilled. A heart guy that is invaluable to the team.

Number 3 will be Leivo. Kid got in some trouble but seems to have his full focus on making it to the NHL. Has loads of skill. I could see him ending up as a MacArthur type player.

Such is the risk with speculation of these sorts as all prospects are suspects until proven otherwise.

What may seem promising today may not turn out to be anything and what is not as obvious may eventually become an NHL regular.

Certainly, hidden gems might turn out while the fan favorites become AHL vets or completely change their employment direction.

I've been touting the guy since his training camp and I'll still do it. Dom Toninato is my dark horse guy, first and foremost. I'll stick with it till he shows he busts. The other is sort of mixed up for me.

Leivo is without a doubt an excellent guy but not a hidden gem IMO, more of someone who everyone knows the leafs brass is extremely high on and is an excellent prospect who is a work in progress.

Other that stand out for me is Ross, and Granberg.

Case in point Justin Pogge was the toast of Leaf town and once considered a blue chip can't miss prospect, whereas a little known James Reimer toiled deep down the depths of the Leafs prospect pool system, receiving little acknowledgement.

Where are they now?

I was pretty ecstatic when Finn dropped to #35, I was expecting him to be a top 20 pick.

I can't explain my excitement, we got another 1st rounder for free, has a change to be a great 2/3 dman

anyways: I don't consider finn, biggs, percy hidden gems, IMO, they are sure fire NHLers

we need more love for ashton, he had a slow start with marlies, but after was one of the better marlies IMO, than got hurt at a bad time,
LR and me both are huge fans of the kid, has speed, little bit of grit, has some good hands, plays physical
IMO, will be a top 6 forwards, but if not, will be a great 3rd liner.

Leivo will be a beauty,

I am probably one of the biggest fans of blacker, he has shown a lot of improvement in last couple or so months, has some offensive upside, top 4 d man IMO. darkhorse to make leafs next season

Really want this guy to do well. However not sure if a second rounder to a first rounder counts as hidden gem, unless they become the next shea weber :P

big hopes for this kid,

plus ashton needs his time, but will be really good:)

Agreed the players mentioned all have a strong chance of being an NHLer, let's hope they get to that point for their sake and our franchises!

Yeap, ashton is still getting those hands ready hopefully for the bigs!
