Has anyone kept an eye on Saad? Can he be a good depth/complimentary player still?

Not the best start, but .5 PPG the previous two years while playing 2nd/3rd line minutes.

Sounds like he could be cheap, not sure if St. Louis would retain.

This could move someone down and the 4th line could turn into a two way line instead of strictly defensive.

He has been just fine. He has had games where he completely takes over and games where he is a bit more quiet but overall he is 1 of only 2 guys this season who have provided consistent offence.
He has to be a top 5 wingeelr to be worth close to his deal.

Hes been John Tavares 2.0.

Overpaid and under producing.

Mattews & Domi have somehow been worse then him

The QC
They played like shit and this has been a trend as of late. Don’t understand why these guys can’t score a goal if their lives depended on it. So much money for so little.
They continue to be perimeter players. Unless someone has stats to show they are driving the puck to the net more than they used to?

Look at the second goal; guys at the net front, shot, tip.

They do not put the puck at the net nearly enough imo.

Honestly I don’t really care if they can facilitate or not. Tavares, Knies, Matthews, Pacioretty, and to a lesser extent Nylander thrive off tips, rebounds, and broken scrambles in front of the net. Even Marner is good at cleaning those up even if it’s not his main wheelhouse. Just get shots to the net and bouncing off pads. I could live with Rielly and Marner’s 14 year old girl shot power if they could reliably get them on net at least, the problem is they miss and clear the zone off the boards or they hit a shin pad and cause an odd man rush the other way.

The magic of the Franson half clapper was that it got on net 99% of the time and was just hard enough to bounce out 5 feet into the slot but not so far that it risked a turnover.

We spent a lot of years with a GM who didn’t believe in a lot of normal ingredients that go into a hockey team. Point shot seemed like one of them. But yeah we need a shot threat.

And now? The new GM does but refuses to get one?

We also had one in Barrie.

And why did that happen? Matthews played the puck nonchalantly and then didn’t stay with Kane in the zone. Earning top salary in the league and dogging it is not a good look. Marner again best player on the ice. Tell me he doesn’t deserve to have the same salary as Matthews….at 12 million each.
Tell me you want to pay three forwards $38 M who can’t get it done when it counts. Might as well throw Rielly and Tavares in there and make it a cool $50 M.

Absolutely disgusted by what I saw tonight, except for the 4th line, they were good EVERYBODY ELSE sucked.

I don't care that Marner had 2 pointshe sucked.

I don't care that Matthews scored tonight he sucked he literally cost them a goal tonight with his stupid offside, turns out that was the difference.

They f***ed around with the puck in the final minute of the 2nd and it cost them a goal.

This team needs another finisher because I'm getting real sick of them struggling to get past 2 goals.

It's not the core 4 either they are producing It's everybody else.

People say we need a 3C and we do but I'd argue we need 2 forwards.

A 3C and a top 9 winger like a Frank Vatrano, maybe Brandon Saad

Knew we'd drop at least one of these. Hopefully not tomorrow against Buffalo, otherwise that's two weekends in a row of zero points collected in very winnable games

It seems like Matthews has sucked the heart, spirit and fight right out of this team since he stumbled back from Germany. While he was gone they hit, they scratched, clawed and fought. Really enjoyed them but now they are back to being the soft gooey team they were before.

can we afford better support players with the structure of the top 4?
