FFS, that was the year where everyone was bitching the Leafs NEEDED to use their #1 on a D-man... I can imagine what the reaction would have been if they took Marner and Konecny instead...

Nobody would have complained or said anything. The best player available was Koneckny
And in no draft scout has Dermott as a #1. He was touted to go in the 2nd round

Dermott's upside was always bottom 2 D and he has lived up to that expectation.
