We don't need to give players a night off....unfortunately many of our players decide to take a night off themselves.

First game between Leafs and Flyers , Jan 24/1968.
Doug Favel stopped 46 shots in a 2-1 Flyers victory.

I remember that like it was yesterday ... :wg:

Now you went and hit a nerve with that reminder of Dougie Favell as he would go on to become and Leaf a few years later.

Remember this ??? .. The Flyers had just announced the completion of a May 15, 1973 trade with the Toronto Maple Leafs. The deal sent goaltender Doug Favell and a 1973 first-round draft pick to the Leafs in exchange for the rights to goaltender Bernie Parent and a 1973 second-rounder. Of course Bernie Parent lead the Flyers to Stanley Cups in 1973 and 1974 while winning the Conn Smythe both years.

Tavares took the optional skate, so he finna play like 99% sure tonighto sire. That's real nice. We always need our (Captain). Tavares been a real stand up guy lately. He a real stand up guy.

Lets hope the Leafs rebound and chalk up another win.

This should be a pretty close game with Philly off to a slightly better start than our Leafs with 14 points after 10 games vs 15 points after 13 games for our Leafs.
I'm surprised the Leafs are favoured in this one.

I had to check that myself personally as the road team the Leafs are a surprise favourite.

The well-rested Philadelphia Flyers host the Toronto Maple Leafs at 7:30pm ET at the Wells Fargo Center on Wednesday.

Toronto is listed as -130 road favorites in the Leafs vs Flyers odds.

After a slow start, the Leafs were riding a five-game winning streak that included three consecutive wins against some of the NHL’s heavyweights, but that came to an end with a disappointing 5-1 loss to the Los Angeles Kings on Monday. Meanwhile, Philadelphia should be well rested as they haven’t played since Saturday.

I guess this is Simmonds first time back in Philly as a Leaf?

Won't be an easy one for Leafs today.

Flyers Goalies Standing Out

The Flyers have done a pretty good job keeping Matthews quiet over the years, as he’s scored just three goals in 10 career games against Philly. Last game it was Martin Jones keeping another Rocket Richard candidate, Alex Ovechkin quiet as the Flyers held the explosive Capitals’ offense to one goal in a 2-1 win.

Carter Hart is likely to get the task of keeping Matthews at bay in this one. He’s had a great start to this month with a .954 save percentage in his two starts in November.
