Leafs have to be favorites now. We've out lived everyone else. They won their Cups hopefully it's our turn.

I'm actually surprised we're not a bigger favourite for the division. Very slightly, the Avs, Oilers and Canes are slightly bigger favs for their divisions.

We have the biggest gap to the 2nd team. The problem with our division is that it's way deeper than any of the others. There's 6 teams that can reasonably take it if everything goes right while the others have 3-4.

There are not 6 teams that can take the Atlantic.

Even people that Ottawa and Buffalo as potential playoff teams, NOBODY has them winning the Atlantic

I would expect the Leafs to take top spot.
1. Leafs

Boston and Tampa are aging and/or have lost players and depth. They are still good teams and should battle right behind us for a while longer. Florida is starting the season with injuries but should be in that mix.
2/3. Boston/Tampa/Florida

Buffalo and Ottawa are the up and comers and if things go right, they should challenge for a wild card.
WC. Ottawa/Buffalo

Montreal and Detroit aren’t there IMO.

Thats how I see it anyway.

The Atlantic seems to have a team go off the past 4 or 5 seasons. Boston only had 100 points in 2020 but they only played 70 games due to the shortened season.

Tampa had 128 in 2019, Florida 122 in 2022, and Boston 135 in 2023. In 2021 the regular divisions were suspended.

So not including 2021 with the bubble, in the past 4 normal seasons the Atlantic has won the presidents trophy all 4 times*, and 3/4 of those years put up 122+ points.

I don't see the Leafs having a season like that. They drop too many games against bad teams. However, Tampa and Boston seem to have taken a step back, and Florida only squeaked in last year and will start this year with some significant injuries.

I think it's likely the Leafs win the division but I doubt they do it like Tampa/Florida/Boston did. However I wouldn't be surprised if one of the Atlantic teams comes in and has a 110-120 point season and wins it.

*None of those teams won the cup that season. The last time that happened was in 2012/2013 in the lockout season (Chicago), so if you're superstitious you probably want the Leafs to win the division but not the PT.

Doesn’t the PT winner make the SCF the following year?

If Boston looses their top two centers (retirement) and Tampa loses their all star goalie for 2 months (Back Surgery) and Toronto does not walk away with 1st place, they deserve a swift kick in the nutz ...

Boston : lost bergeron, krejci, hall. Theyvwill fight for playoff but not 1st seed

Tampa with their depht and vasilevskiy out 1st 20-30 games... same

Florida dealing with injuries

Ottawa and buffalo are rising but still have huge goaltender

The door is all open for leafs to finish 1st of atlantic

But why do people think Toronto doesn’t have any goaltending issues? All of a sudden Samsonov is a .919 save % goalie going forward? After one good regular season? Then he was complete dog in the playoffs. I am not so certain Leafs are so stable in net.

Boston and TB are getting worse. Toronto improved. I say they take the Atlantic, if not the East.

1-As a team they a better defensivly to protect their goalie

2-Samsonov was top in amoun g last season' yes it was only 1 year but still more than what korpisalo/forsberg luukonnen/comrie/devi ever done

And D issues.

Hope lies in the fact that not every playoff team in the East can beat tthe Leafs, unlike in years past. There is a perceived path for them to win 2 rounds. Even during training camp, we knew they very little chance in they‘d have playoff success, but this year , if things line up properly they could make the Eastern final.

I am concerned with our PK unit.
Holl for all his troubles was a solid RD PK guy. Not sure who will gobble up his minutes among others. Schenn, ROR, Accarri, Kerfoot.

With vasi out Tampa is going to be less competitive but should still be ahead of Florida.

Leafs
Bruins

Bolts/Panthers

It's odd that Samsonov is "money in the bank" and Korpisalo is supposed to be a weak link.

Not sure that makes a lot of sense.

I wouldn't call either one money in the bank, but it is fair to say Samsonov has proven more in fewer career games.

The difference between the two is that one plays behind a far superior team, and it will show in their respective numbers this season.
