Post-Game Talk: Leafs Drool we Rule!

Team defense continues to trend in the right direction. Only gave up about a handful of quality chances total between two games against good teams on the road.

Pettersson was a force defensively below the face-off dots. Helps relieve pressure on our crappier D-men when he's down there breaking up plays and moving the puck through traffic.

Lankinen was sharp and solid when he had to be but didn't really have to do all that much.

Team had every excuse to lay an egg in this one and morale seems low to begin with; nice to see them pull this one out.

Perfect road game.

especially against a team like the leafs, and with us getting an early lead. Leafs would have poured it in, and they did. We held our ground and we stayed discipline.

special credit needs to be given to our foot soldiers, as in Juulsen, Forbert, Myers. These guys we know their limitations at this point. They played as good as it gets , against a team as stacked as the leafs, with a lead. Usually we would collapse and the opposing team will piling it in. They were composed, they played it "safe" they played smart, no brutal giveaways, there was literally none, here and there, leafs might have intercepted a pass, but nothing brutal that gave them a good scoring chance, we didn't give them shit tonight, lol! Well done Canucks.

Quinn Hughes, man oh man, he channeling his hughes into his fellow dmans. I do feel the Canucks need to add another top 3 dman onto our lineup though.

That was a big win for the boys! Very difficult to win that 2nd game of a B2B in todays NHL and to do it against TO on a Saturday night makes it feel even better :)

Now hopefully management will get that D-man (without trading pettersson or miller) we desperately need and string together something positive to close out the season

Lets goooooooooooooooooooo

Quinn Hughes told us that the players on the #Canucks bench, taking notice of Elias Pettersson’s defensive form tonight, were yelling “Selke” as Pettersson racked up disruptive defensive plays on Saturday night.

Pettersson: “First time I heard it this year.”

Who can figure the NHL. Vancouver had every reason to fade out of this one. If I'd been a betting man I'd have said 3-0 Leafs.

Canucks now 1-1-2 on this tough five game road-trip with one more in Winnipeg. Winnipeg barn has been a chamber of horrors for the Canucks over the years....but after tonight, who knows?

Yeah, but was Miller yelling it? That's what Seravalli and Friedman need to get to the bottom of.

Big win. 4 points in 4 games so far on this road trip. Get a point in WPG and it's a successful jaunt out east.

Doesn't get much sweeter than blanking the Buds on their house program.

Defensively, this team is starting to put it together. Add in that it's pretty likely imo that come playoffs we will have added three pieces to the blueline that aren't available tonight (Hronek, Willander, trade). EP really led the charge for forwards in that department.

Offense is still coming, but as the defensive structure becomes more stable, the offense should also improve.

Even with the hiccups we've been having this season, I'm still feeling confident in this group. Screw the noise, just get to the show.

.500 on the road trip! But honestly this team.... when you think things are looking better they screw up, and just when you think all is totally lost, they win one like this. Team is such a drama show this season.

Good

Lankanin - has to be ahead Demko at the minute. Gets any sort of rest and he looks terrific.

Hughes - think he is the best player in team history. Think he is ahead of Bure simply b/c he does it all over the ice. Guy contnues to be the our best offensive player and our best defensive player. Had a excellent game

Sherwood - has the knack of instantly reading the play and making the right decisions. Lot of the grinders like PDG, Suter, etc were important in the win. PK was also central to the win and many of the same players helped in that. One surprising stat is that Sherwood is getting more minutes than Pettersson. Don't think anyone could have predicted that pre-season

Garland - good two way game. Underrated defensively and a player who is always around the play. In some ways the heart of the team.

Myers - has had a very good road trip. Getting more offensively involved and had two assists. Doesn't matter for many that he is playing well, since they have to convince us he is terrible. So don't believe your lying eyes and just go with the anti Myers flow.

Others

Soucy - not great but much better than he has recently been.

Hoglander - still not much happening here but was better in a checking role.

Boeser - had the puck go off his foot. Otherside not much in the play

Miller - looks frustrated again. Lucky he didn't get more calls. Little selfish in that.

Pettersson - give him credit for some critical defensive plays but you are still left wondering where his offensive game has gone. Seems like him and Miller remain a sour mix. Meanwhile Hughes gets on with doing the job.

Brisebois - OK as long as he keeps it very simple.

Lekkermaki - starting to be more in the play. His skating is NHL level and you can see the him moving effectively into openings. He'll need a set up man. However the only one doing that at the moment is Hughes. Hopefully Pettersson can get back to being that.

Juulsen - gives it his all but he can't really play at this level. Would give all the pluggers of this world a jolt of joy if he would suddenly blossom into bona vide NHL d-man.

Wish the team was heading home tonight and could skip Winnipeg where things likely do get ugly. However, given what we saw tonight, I guess you never know.

Tavares, Matthew’s, Marner and Nylander didn’t do much of anything.

Patches plays a very hard, heavy game. He must have switched his style up cause I don’t remember him every playing that hard on the boards or check.
