If you added 3 players @ $4 mil per = $ 12 mil AAV combined which are capable of scoring 20 goals each that equates to 60 goals total or pay Marner $12 mil AAV for 25-30 goals.

Depth is the key to success when you can double the production for similar costs.
Yes and they need more depth scoring and I think Matthews is better without Marner. Of the big 4 right now Marner is the guy that doesn’t have the play style that succeeds in the playoffs.

Yeah, Marner is just the worst in the playoffs. Meanwhile, Matthews and especially Nylander are total studs who probably should have won a couple of Conn Smythe trophies by now... oh wait..

Had to laugh when I saw the lines before game with Berube stacking the 2nd line because he's terrified of dropping one the Big Guys to the 3rd line. So lets put Willie on the left even though he's chasing a Rocket (irrelevant but still) and has been a RW (and rarely a C) his entire life ...

In any case, good, solid win.

Is it just me or do they generally just play more disciplined, tighter and focused when Stolarz is in net vs. anyone else? Or he's just that good it looks that way? Whatever it is, to me he's the easy starter come playoff time.

Yeah but we can take away Marner's points because anyone can get those points. They don't but they can.

True, last night's assist was only a secondary assist and we don't count those.. even though he was the one who caused the turnover.

For his next contract and playing style yes he has the least impact in the playoffs. Especially last year he was a ghost out there for that series

More of a ghost than the guys who didn't even play? lol

Every criticism of Marner around here seems to be wholly hypocritical and/or logically inconsistent. And I say that as someone who agrees he needs to be much much better in the playoffs.

Maybe a trillionaire's Domi. The only thing Domi does better than Marner is take idiotic penalties from time to time.

The takes in these threads are so bad.
Just looking for attention, for some reason we grant it.

Lmfaooooo, what happened to them missing the playoffs?

Straight up clown takes for the last 3+ weeks.

Did the exact same thing. It was a wrap. I watched 2 periods, more than I planned.
If tgat stupid review lasted much longer I would have been gone.

Was listening to Kyper and Bourne yesterday and they were commenting about how putting Nylander on the off wing didn't really matter defensively because being on the forehand or backhand on the boards isn't a consideration when he never goes to the boards to win a puck in his own zone anyways.

Kyper agreed and said it doesn't matter too much when he's skating figure 8s in the neutral zone waiting for a break.

We could go on all day back and forth. I can see him wanting $13-14 million a year based on his numbers and the cap going up. If they keep him I hope for all our sakes he steps it up

Let’s see the playoffs go this year. They are in their prime now.

Berube has always struck me as a guy who's easily 'terrified'.

I'm surprised they didn't break down the 500 assists down to their real value, probably doesn't even have 100.

For a guy

I can see him wanting that too. Not saying I agree with it but management has set the bar with the other deals and Marner is 100% a better hockey player than the guy they just paid 11.5 to.

I hope for all our sakes they all step up. So tired of one guy irrationally getting all the blame while two guys get excuse after excuse while chasing individual milestones too.

Now they have to get greedy and get all 4 games on this trip. Berube shouldn't let them off the hook if they don't play well on Saturday and lose. Yes, it has been a successful trip, but I don't think being content and complacent is the way to go.

Really solid game for the most part. Never really felt like that game was in jeopardy at any point. Seattle at times did show some push back once they were down by 3, but for the most part there was a clear discrepancy in talent between the 2 teams.

Absolutely no rust from Stoli. He made some outstanding saves when needed.

Felt really good about the top-6 lines. Both the Matthews and JT lines were humming all night. The Willy - JT - Mitch line especially had jump to me. And that was with Willy looking a touch off for most of the night as well. I really hope we give that top-6 combo some runway. It was a relentless at times. If ever we had to shorten the bench and roll 3 lines, having a 1-2 punch like that complimented with a high energy Robertson - XXXX - McMann could be really dangerous.

PLEASE bring the energy for us on Saturday. I BEG YOU!!! Vancouver based Leaf fans deserve a win in the worst possible way. We show up every damn time, loud as all hell, only to see our boys let us down year over year.

NOT THIS YEAR!
