Post-Game Talk: Leafs Book Their Tickets for Game 7 [MOD WARNING in OP]

Again, please tell me the difference between scoring a goal, and making a pass to someone else that scores a goal. They registered a point on a goal scored no? They were apart of the goal scored.. or am I incorrect?

We are taking as if the top guys are going 0G and 0A apart from the 1 game this series..
You're welcome to be satisfied with the goal scorers not scoring goals. It's not a recipe for success.

Brother, this team continues to buck statistical trends and youre still holding out for them 🤣

They're like 0-30 on the PP in series clinching games. Run the numbers on that, its an insanely unlikely outcome but it is reality. They are what? 1-13 now in series clenching games? Please show me any core from any sport with a worse record than that. If you gave them an even chance to win each of those games (50/50), its like a 0.15% chance of going 1-13. But yeah, keep thinkin this core applies to the laws of statistics
what an apt typo

He’s got 1 series win in almost a decade man.
I tend to agree, but that's not what we are chatting about at this point. You claimed that Toronto is losing because he's gotten 1 goal & is not scoring in the last two playoffs series and producing.

I countered with when he has scored goals in a playoff series, 4goals in 2016, 5 goals in 2018, 4 goals in 2021, they have lost as well.

So what comes after that? I would argue it's secondary scoring no?

I commend optimism, and I mean this genuinely, when did you start watching the team?

I have been a fan since I was 8/9, and I saw the last few years of the Sundin era, the Kessel era and now the Matthews era.

Each iteration, my belief has gone up, yet the results have gone no where. I can't see anything change for the leafs until proven otherwise, so I simply cannot be optimistic.

Late 80's for me. It hasn't been a great ride, but what do you want?

I'm staying away from the main playoff thread. I'm sure people are just licking their chops for a reverse sweep. There's time to change that.

What comes after that is realizing he is one of the highest paid players in the league, he is paid to produce in the playoffs.

Not to drop from from 1st in g/60 by a WIDE margin (1.9 vs Ovi's 1.7) to 38th in g/60 come playoff time.

If he needs so much help he can take a contract more appropriate to the help he needs (apparently a ton). Having 2/10 playoff series where he equals/surpasses his season g/pg total is an abysmal result for a guy that is supposed to be a generational goal scorer.

Was a bit of a problem yesterday.
Certainty would have been ideal time for McMann/Laughton/Pacioretty/Lorentz/Jankrok to add 1 goal to the series yesterday or in game 4...

Production also comes and counts in the form of generating assists that lead to a goal being scored for the team....

It would but there is higher expectations on the two highest paid players as there should be. Individually they both make more than all those players put together. If you're relying on the bottom of the lineup to win the games for you, the season will be short.

I would just look around the league at star level players and note that having a hot 5-7 games in one round isn’t even a particularly high bar. Win or lose, Adrian Kempe is having a nice series for the Kings. He’s not a generational player. Doesn’t get all the flowers. Ho hum, 4-5 goals, looks like a difference maker.

Agreed, I don't think anyone is expecting any of the players listed + Domi to have 3 or 4 goals scored through a 7 game series and carry them over someone like Marner/Matthews/Nylander.

Certainly there needs some sort of expectation though from the bottom 6 forwards in 5 games now to have more then just 1 goal between them all.

Matthews isn't paid to be Kucherov or Marner, nor is he great that either.

He ranks 52nd in playoff assists per 60, we're paying 13 million+ aka highest in the NHL for a 52nd in the league (lower considering half the league doesn't make it in) type production?

So what is Marner paid to do then?

Because like the other two, he is not and has not produced anything in gamea the Leafs can clinch.

Games 5-7, Nylander has 7 goals and 10 assists over his tenure.

Marner has 1 goal and 7 assists in the same games.

There is no more tearing down 1 to build up another.

Collectively they all suck when it matters

I misheard then, thanks for the correction. Yeah still pretty pathetic. But hey, we're blessed to be able to watch a number of all-time Leaf greats play with the current group right? Gotta be at least 3-4 guys on the team who will be taking their place on legends row when they're done playing right? Right??
You didn't mishear, the broadcast was incorrect to say it.

Kempe has 1g 2a in his last 3 games and a -6. People here would want him benched with that.

Marner is paid to put up points and play in all situations. I wasn't referring to the others historically but over the past couple games.
It would certainly be great if he chipped in a couple more goals but the expectation is really on the other two.

Where was the team that came out flying in game one and two? Right from the drop of the puck it was tentative garbage with no big hits or anything. Just bloody diabolical. Bring back NR; at least he hits and brings energy.
I think they were expecting an easier game. Maybe a reporter should ask if this is a possibility.

4th line has been good, points otherwise. When you can play in the ozone, your D can change, you get momentum, coach trusts you with toi so the other lines get a rest and you wear them down a little, they've done their job. 3rd line's a whole other story, what a fustercluck that's been.

To pass obviously, meh anyone can score, well anyone but three of the core. JT getting a pass for his 3 but it is early so we will see.

Who won the face-off in OT for the Benoit winner?
