Every one of TOR's key players have to look in mirror and answer the question: how do you want your legacy to look? They have the horses to win this series. They just need to execute. I strongly believe that Berube is a decent coach, and will make the proper adjustments.

Did that the year after the 2021 Habs choke. Definitely doing it again next season if they extend Marner & Tavares.

Momentum is on the Sen’s side, if they win game six it’ll be even more so, Leafs core get the yips when the going gets tough, years ago this was supposed to be the learning experience now it’s just the way they roll…….

If LA bows out against Edmonton in the 1st round they might be interested and it's probably a place he'd accept a trade to. The NMC's on Morgan, Willy and AM34 make it difficult to move on from them.

However, make no mistake: if this team is actually eliminated by Ottawa in Round 1, the only solution is a gradual (we can't tank with no picks) but virtually complete dismantling over a period of 3 or so years.

Our top guys make too much money so we can't afford a quality bottom 6. Matthews 13M, Nylander 11M, Marner 11M, JT 11M. We're top heavy as shit. When you're that top heavy the people on the top have to produce. Period. If they can't then trade them so we can have a more balanced team. Two $6M forwards give you more playoff goals then Matthews over the last 15 playoff games.

Questioning the quality of the supporting cast is frankly an insult at this point. Do the Leafs have the best depth in the world? No. But in order make up for the deficit of what 34, 16, 88 and 44 bring in elimination moments you’d need $50 million in all-world depth to do their jobs for them when they’re poo-poo’ing in their pants. Let’s not forget Benoit and Domi already staked them ahead for 2 OT wins already.

Matthews is a low compete loser. Notice how expectations are always being dialled down and he gets all these outsized head pats for being defensively responsible against inferior players in head to head matchups. Imagine Connor McDavid being tasked with shutting down Phil Danault? Or Nathan Mackinnon having to really look after Roope Hintz. It’s absurd.

And then there’s the injury angle. Non specific, no timeline mystery injuries that require no surgery in the summer, bur random trips to Germany in season, permit extracurriculars where he needs to be load manager at 4 Nations, but sometimes flare up to affect the brain, hands and feet simultaneously under “pressure.” If the injury cover didn’t auto generate these performance related excuses by themselves you’d think he’d have pulled a Vince Carter and just declared he’s not shooting wrist shots anymore.

Feel like in this instance doing something crazy and Ballard-y like stripping the C in series might actually have a net positive impact.

It might just be me, but 1 goal and 8 assists in 22 games is not very good.

Off the top of my head I would guess that Matthews lines are no better while Willy's will be a little better but still not where they need to be

Games 5-7, he has 7 goals and 10 assists in 22 games which is good. Yesterday he was bad though.

Another excuse for the bottom half of the forwards group. They're getting off the hook far to easily year in and year out... Not expecting them to carry the team, but they need to be supporting the core in some way.

Robertson had 15g this year (poor play away from puck has cost him being in the lineup)
McMann had 20g this year
Laughton had 13g this year.

^ These players should be able to contribute offensively in some way come playoff time, they did it in the regular season.


Domi makes 3.8m (He's been ass this entire year & playoffs)
Jarnkork 2.2m (1g in 22games as a Leaf come playoffs)
Kampf 2.4m (Fairly expensive scratch).

^ These players aren't making chump change on the lower end of the lineup, they should provide something come playoffs.. Telling me it's too much to ask of all the players listed above to get 1 goal per series?

If every player in our bottom 6 scored 1g or even .5 of a goal, thats either 6 goals in the series or an extra 3.. You don't think that's a difference in the series? That's a win in game 4 or 5. But again with this iteration with the Leafs team, they are expected to score almost every goal of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. (Not disagreeing they need to carry come close out games, but god dam, give me a goal from our bottom 6 at somepoint)..
