Post-Game Talk: Leafs Book Their Tickets for Game 7 [MOD WARNING in OP]

ROR allegedly said a few offhanded things on his way out of Toronto but none of it is documented at all.
he's a winner, he saw the lay of the land and decided this group wasn't worth staying for..........

Marners Playoff Career by game since the start of round 1 vs Boston in 2018

• Game 1s: 5 G and 7 A in 10 games

• Game 2s: 4 G and 8 A in 10 games

• Game 3s: 0 G and 11 A in 10 games

• Game 4s: 2 G and 11 A in 10 games

• Game 5s: 0 G and 5 A in 10 games

• Game 6s: 1 G and 1 A in 7 games

• Game 7s: 0 G and 2 A in 5 games

The rest of this series, is pretty much career defining, and future defining.

These Leafs, and Marner are the opposite of clutch performers.
It might just be me, but 1 goal and 8 assists in 22 games is not very good.

Off the top of my head I would guess that Matthews lines are no better while Willy's will be a little better but still not where they need to be

if they're struggling now the next row to hoe won't get any easier, they're going nowhere regardless of the possibly winner this series........

They just aren’t good enough, but I’ll take the entertainment while I can get it, but I’m done being upset about this team. They are who I thought they were, but I don’t think they don’t care or they’re heartless. They just don’t have what it takes to go the distance or beat Florida.

last night sucked but our stars were having a decent enough playoffs before that. Better than usual anyway. Odds are still good they win this series. Also still weird Nylander escapes criticism when he's been just as whatever as the other two. Same thing happened last year.

Last night truly was gutting. However, I still have to believe they can win. I get that this is probably who they are but I really don’t WANT to believe they can’t get it done. Still up 3-2, I hope they prove us wrong in our feeling that they can’t get it done in elimination games.

Whether it's their teams, or the people around them, these guys ALWAYS seem aware of the noise around them.

The 'pressure' comes from them totally knowing what is being said about them, and how it cripples them.

So they have "Learned Helplessness"? If they know the narrative, why don't they try to change it? I am sick of looking at their blank/sulking faces in elimination games.

I've been supportive of this core 3 through all their flaws and foibles this season, but I swear if they put in another effort like last night's in the next two games, I will hammer them every day till Treliving does something. No other organization would put up with this kind of ineptitude from their highest paid players in elimination games. They want to be paid commensurate with the comparables, then they have to produce in big games like them. Mcdavid and Draisatil put the team on their backs despite having a defence that is average and goaltending that is nothing short of abysmal. We have a very good defence, and more than adequate goaltending this season, so no more excuses.

How can you pay four players 10+ million dollars and get shutdown on the powerplay when the games matter most?

I have watched alot of different sports and heard many different "stats" but that 0-30 in potential series winning games is one of the craziest stats I've ever heard.

I can understand if you get neutralized 5 v 5 against some good playoff teams but theres just zero excuse for having this level of talent and not being able to convert at a strong clip when 5 v 4.

Eh not really. They could win the series, but being roadkilled by Florida in short order is going to reaffirm all negatives about them. They have to show us more, that they could handle their business differently and have more in the tank to get anywhere. Salvaging this series doesn’t change anything about these guys.
I meant in the context of this series that all the doom and gloom and negativity will have been pointless if they win tomorrow. I didn't say anything about the next series at all - my first post that you responded to actually said 'win tomorrow and go from there' in the context of the next series.

You're also saying 'salvaging this series' as if it's over or even guaranteed to go 7 games. What if they destroy Ottawa tomorrow? Most series don't end in 4 or 5 games, the sky isn't falling here.

To each their own. To the extent that one lousy win vs Ottawa is a) probable b) can undo 9 years of ill will, it’s an individual reaction. To me, same losers at the heart of everything and they’ve been exposed.

They need support from the bottom end of the roster.. Look at any team that's won the Stanley Cup, they get contributions from the bottom end of the roster. Even if it's 1goal per bottom six forward per series... Only in Toronto it's solely on 4 forwards to score every goal of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Toronto getting a goal from the 3rd or 4th line in game 4 helps them, Toronto getting a goal from the 3rd or 4th line in game 5 helps them.. Imagine in game 6 Toronto is able to get one or two from a 3rd and 4th line.. And the top end producers get 2 goals.. Surely 4 goals is enough for them to win...

Cool, sounds like you have zero expectations of them then and as such shouldn't automatically assume they're going to lose tomorrow or the series in general.

I’m not following what you’re saying but I’m not here to take away your hope. All I can say is I deeply dislike the core of the team and don’t trust them to ever figure it out. It’s not about this series but 9 years of crap.

My initial post that was the Leafs are still up 3-2 and in the driver's seat in the context of this current series and you brought up losing next next round, the last 9 years etc. as if that has any relevance to what I said.

We'll still up 3-2 and therefore still likely to win the series so best not to get too down after losing last night but also, if we do win game 6, I'd hold off on bragging about how good we are.
I hope so, but my guess is that lots of Leafs fans will do the pound their chest routine anyway.

Nylander has been far worse, defensively alone Matthews brings more value than Nylanders overall play.

Also our stars always score well the first 5 games.
