Post-Game Talk: Leafs Book Their Tickets for Game 7 [MOD WARNING in OP]

Don't think many people are "simping" with the core. It's pretty ignorant in a team game to ignore the faults of the bottom end of the roster though while just shitting on the top end. They are still contributing to the game on the scoresheet.

While I don't expect them to carry the team, I expect your 3rd and 4th line to win their matchup every now and then, not go even or lose it most nights.

Simon Beniot has the same amount of goals as 6 players combined & more points then any players in the bottom 6
OEL has more goals then 6 players combined & more points then any of the players in the bottom 6.
Morgan Reilly has more goals then 6 players combined & more points then any of the players in the bottom 6.

Surely I can't be the only one of thinks this is fine and a winning formula.
Fourth line has been winning its matchup pretty consistently and outplaying Ottawa's bottom six most games. The third line has been an issue and Tre/Berube have failed to address it properly.

Even still, on a 4 min PP in OT it's not the bottom six we're relying on lol

I’m pretty McDavid and Draisaitl know what people say about them too every time Edmonton has a conniption. You know what they do? Their jobs.
Oh I'm not defending them - it's quite the opposite; they're rotten, and completely unable to sort this out.

1-13 in series clinching games with this core.
0 for the last 33 PPs in series clinching games.
1 PP goal, total, in series clinching games since 2018.
2 Shorties on their PP in series clinching games since 2018.

None of these are coincidences are this point.

Marners Playoff Career by game since the start of round 1 vs Boston in 2018

• Game 1s: 5 G and 7 A in 10 games

• Game 2s: 4 G and 8 A in 10 games

• Game 3s: 0 G and 11 A in 10 games

• Game 4s: 2 G and 11 A in 10 games

• Game 5s: 0 G and 5 A in 10 games

• Game 6s: 1 G and 1 A in 7 games

• Game 7s: 0 G and 2 A in 5 games

The rest of this series, is pretty much career defining, and future defining.

These Leafs, and Marner are the opposite of clutch performers.
Thanks for this. I assume Matthews stats look like this as well.

The Leafs downfall is always themselves. I could see this exact outcome playing out vs any team in the Atlantic. We've burned through everyone but the core 4

Oh no, no. The proverbial car has gone over the cliff. It is now flying through the air.
I'm inclined to disagree. If they lose in 7 we can have the conversation, but they could easily win tomorrow and then all this doom and gloom talk will have been pointless.

Might as well move on from Nylander too

Maybe they can miss the playoffs so we don't have to worry about this anymore.
Honestly their options are blow it up or throw darts at the board and hope it's the right one of they lose this series

We're in a spot where 2 key players are pending UFAs and two stars are locked up with rocky playoff performances.

Outplaying means nothing if you don't score and contribute to winning the game. You seen that with the big boys plenty of times.

I don't think people should be giving the big boys a pass, at all. But put the blame solely on them is just wrong. If the bottom 6 players are helping out by getting goals/points & the big boys are doing nothing, rightfully so they should be shit on, but the bottom end of the forwards have actually provided us close to nothing since game 1. (1g from Domi), and for some reason we are giving them a pass?

Sure...

But more to the point, we've made our bed with this group, and Matthews/Marner combo has proven to be elite over time... but as we are discussing, they tend to choke.... this team is NEVER going anywhere, unless they find a way to not be chokers. Splitting them up doesn't change this in the least. They are the two top players on this team.. if they can't perform when it counts, they can't... (and it's time to make changes)... but you live by the sword, and you die by the sword. We aren't going anywhere, unless they can find a way to be elite when it counts... shuffling chairs on the titanic doesn't change that.
they've proven to be anything but elite in the post season, I guess if your goal is winning a division title or a president's trophy they're elite?

You can't find another team like this because no other team would get away with pissing on the fans heads like this for this many years.

Bill Barilko disappeared for 11 years, how many years are we at for the Austonflation disappearance? 9?
someone needs to write a song about this.............

I feel lik
Some lineup changes are coming on Thursday, Patches out and Robertson back in. And I would swap Kampf in for Jarnkrok and run a Lorentz - Kampf - Holmberg 4th line & a Domi - Laughton - Robertson 3rd line.

They played like dogshit last night, and it starts with the big boys but not enough being talked about is the fact in 5 games, we have 1 goal from our bottom 6.. At some point they need to get a goal or two from the bottom lines in a game.l

I feel like all we have gotten this series is depth scoring. Bout time the big boys do something. But they won’t.

Eh not really. They could win the series, but being roadkilled by Florida in short order is going to reaffirm all negatives about them. They have to show us more, that they could handle their business differently and have more in the tank to get anywhere. Salvaging this series doesn’t change anything about these guys.

The series ain't done yet. Sure they laid an egg last night, but it happens to every team. I'm hoping for a bounce back game in Ottawa.
I commend optimism, and I mean this genuinely, when did you start watching the team?

I have been a fan since I was 8/9, and I saw the last few years of the Sundin era, the Kessel era and now the Matthews era.

Each iteration, my belief has gone up, yet the results have gone no where. I can't see anything change for the leafs until proven otherwise, so I simply cannot be optimistic.

I just pray they win this round so everyone can see them get swept by Florida. It will be hilarious when we see we can’t even compete with them.
if they're struggling now the next row to hoe won't get any easier, they're going nowhere regardless of the possibly winner this series........

Can't really blame these idiots. The weather is getting nice and I'd rather be biking than watching these choke artists. I know they'd rather be golfing and Mitch would rather be in Muskoka.
I wonder if Berube will have to go to the desert and wash Austin's feet like the other coaches were made to?

The way that series is going, half of the team will be on the injured list or suspended
So we have a chance
not even close, the winner will be tempered like steel, they'll walk through the Leafs regardless of what team wins that series..........

holy f***ing shit. Leaf nation is losing their f***ing minds.
Not losing.
Lost.
And for good reason - this core has run out of runway to prove that they're actually different this year.
The patterns are exactly the same. The panic has justifiably set in.
Even if you scrape through now, it's hard to imagine them feeling great about going up against an actual contender.

100% agree. These guys have to win 2 rounds, or at the very least, play their butts off in the second round like they deserve to win. I've said from the start, wait until the playoffs are over before handing out report cards or to put it another way, all those points put up by the "big 4" in the first few games against Ottawa mean absolutely nothing.

We'll still up 3-2 and therefore still likely to win the series so best not to get too down after losing last night but also, if we do win game 6, I'd hold off on bragging about how good we are.

I wonder where all those people are who were saying that Florida is "our only obstacle" to winning the East? Let's be real here, every team is an obstacle.
